Subject: Staplers and three-hole punches.

In the office, I've encountered users frustrated when attempting to
staple or hole-punch large stacks of paper in our staplers and hole
punches. Since stapling is arguably SIPB's most valuable service, I'd
like to recommend that the SIPB buy some more studly staplers and/or
three-hole punches. Before making a motion, I'd like to know what
people think of this and where they think the price/performance line
should be drawn for us. I have collected the following data from The
Web. All prices are from Office Despot unless otherwise noted.

Staplers:
  Stanley Bostitch 00540: 200-225 sheets of 20#, $65 ($50 at officemax)
    - no adjustable stapling pressure, yes adjustable throat depth
  Swingline 900XD: 210 sheets of 20#, $70
    - yes adjustable stapling pressure, no adjustable throat depth
  Swingline 390: 150 sheets of 20#, $29
  Stanley Bostitch B310HDS: 125 sheets of 20#, $25
  Swingline 39?: 100 sheets of 20#, $24

 What we currently have:
  The heavier stapler:
    Swingline 777: (nominally) 60 sheets, $20
(I've experimentally determined that the heavy stapler can, barely,
staple stacks of 70 sheets of Athena paper.)
A few staplers that are certainly:
    Swingline 747: (nominally) 20 sheets, $10.50
(I've determined that these will, barely, staple stacks of 45
    sheets of Athena paper.)

Thee-hole paper punches:
McGill Power Punch 300 sheets of 20# $250
  Swingline Acco 650 144 sheets of 20# $210
  Swingline Acco 550 74 sheets of 20# $100

 What we have now:
  Swingline Acco 440 40 sheets of 20# $53
(However, experimentally, I've found that our hole punch will choke
on any stack larger than 25 sheets, and require a plier to get the
stack out. This may be due to wear and tear on the punch.)

At the moment, I'd recommend that we get one of the two studliest
staplers (not sure which) and some studly paper punch. The punches are
more expensive, but the Power Punch is an impressive power tool. We
could use it to discipline unruly users.

On a final note, it would be nifty-keen to get one of these:

And it's only $5!

Thoughts?
