No, it's actually happening. Adams has been urging them for quite some time,
that's nothing new, but they are actually starting to do it. (Did I mention
that Gerry Adams rocks?) It's been hidden in the news, but it's real
exciting, huh? They won't give their guns over, but they are putting them
"beyond use" by smashing them and concreting them in the ground. There have
been a couple stockpiles confirmed destroyed by the impartial observers that
have been sitting in Ireland for the past three years getting paid to wait
for this to happen...

I think the fact that the IRA were unwilling to do even the most symbolic
and non-actual amount of disarming for the past seven years of cease fire,
means that even if they're not dismantaling a significant part of their
aresenal now, any symbolic disarmament is a huge step forward. What's also
nice to see is that Blair is doing the right thing and responding right away
by dismantling Brit millitary installations. (the presence of which is the
reason the IRA didn't want to disarm in the first place, and not
unreasonably so - "wait a minute, you invade out country, move hundreds of
men and tanks over here, we get guns to defend ourselves, you promise to
leave, and you want us to give up our guns BEFORE you more any troops out?".
That sure as hell wouldn't fly in Texas.)

Anyway, there's some good articals about it in the Manchester Guardian,
which is in the Murph! Yay! An excuse to plug the Manch!
