--- DISCUSSION ON SORTING PROSPECTIVES

jhamrick:
... Okay I guess I have one. I wanted to briefly discuss whether
or not we wanted to do the sorting of prospectives and interested
people, or wait until the beginning of term, or...

jhawk:
Can we have a sorting hat?

jhamrick:
Moving on, I guess the issue would be that ... so we had the new policy
voted on a few months ago, but we really haven't acted on it yet, so we
still have this huge list of prospectives going back to 1994. We want to
partition it into prospectives vs. interested. The problem with doing
this now is that people may not be paying attention to their email. I
sort of want to get it down... the longer we wait the more likely people
will forget.

kasittig:
I want to send email. If someone responds, then great; if someone hadn't
been involved and doesn't respond, I'll change them to interested."

Comments from office, source unknown:
- Our main concern is that I don't receive an email back from somebody
- My main concern is that they'll be offended
- I want to send individual emails

kasittig:
It's more work but less likely to cause problems. I don't presently
have enough time and knowledge of people to sort though this on my own.

lexrj:
Maybe we should keep a list of people you're going through?
I think we should wait on dropping people down til the end of term.

kasittig:
In terms of actually having a list of active prospectives:
Do we want a sipb-summer list?
Do we want a list of "Hey, we know you're going to be in the area."?

Note that this doesn't answer jhamrick's concern that the list is too
long, nor how we're going to narrow people down.

jhawk:
All of these are reasonable choices.
SIPB should give wide latitude to prospective czar.

geofft:
The idea of having a high-traffic mailing list on
the short term for the summer -- this is a good idea
independent of prospective interestedness.
kasittig:
I'm concerned this will add to the plethora of mailing lists.
geofft:
It is really easy to turn from interested into prospective?
geofft:
Can a member also say so?
kasittig:
We should probably get their consent first.
geofft:
We ought having sipb members go through and say "oh, that person is
definitely active or interested" manually.
kasittig:
That is my main mechanic for pruning down this list.
lexrj:
This conversation may be going into micromanaging, but doing something
sooner rather than later is better.
jhamrick:
Essentially it means our new policy is not implemented yet; We're in
this limbo state where we have everyone listed a prospective member...
what is someone new comes in? until we do this, we're not going to have
clear guidelines about what to do

--- PROPOSAL ON HANDLING OF PROSPECTIVES LIST

geofft:

let's do something concrete.
motion:
"the policy regarding prospectives and interesteds will
not take effect until the discretion of the prospective czars"

*murmurs of agreement*

jhawk:
white ballot?
jhamrick:
no, I'd rather vote

*jokes*

<motion passes 16-0>

*more jokes*

jhamrick:
That's it for the wankerous portion.
geofft:
I object. I move to disband the EC
lexrj:
seconded
jhamrick:
It is the discretion of the chair to dismiss this motion.

jhamrick:
Are there any officer reports?

--- HACKATHON COMING UP - 26th of June (Saturday)

gdb:
We should have a hacakathon soon. I'll put Leonid in charge. If you
have name suggestions -- if you have any food requests -- you should
talk to leonid. This is called delegating to my prospective, also being
lazy. It should be not this Saturday but the next Saturday... anyone
have a date on that? 26th sounds reasonable. Let it be hereby be
proclaimed and shouted that the 26th of June shall be the next
hackathon. To be named "Pterohacktyl".

leonidg:
How much money do I get?
jhawk:
$150

jhamrick:
Did we spend all our money from last time?
kaduk:
All.
jhawk:
what?
*joking about pennies*

--- IDEA - FUTURE JOINT HACKATHON WITH BU's SIPB

jhamrick:
cool.
On the hackathon note, I think it would be really cool
if we had a joint hacakthon with BUILDS the BU SIPB,
Kyle is the acting president.

Projects Report:
================

jhamrick:
Are there any other project reports?

--- XVM - REQUEST FOR HELP DOCUMENTING

kasittig:
If anyone wants to help me document xvm you should email me.

--- GUTENBACH - NO LONGER REQUIRES ATHENA

broglek:
I wanted to use gutenbach at BU. So, on github, there is now
(in addition to the master branch) a new "nodebathena" branch
which will compile and work without debathena, and has no
dependencies on kerberos or zephyr or anything.

--- ANYGIT - SCALING ISSUES

gdb:
Anygit has decided that it cant scale using its architecture.
we should homegrow a solution to solve the storage problem.

--- DEBATHENA - MOVING TO LUCID

geofft:
Debathena is getting closer to lucid. Please test
lucid.dialup.mit.edu more.
gdb:
Can we fork bomb?

--- CRUFT WHO USE MH (mail client) - REQUEST FOR TESTING ON DEBATHENA

geofft:
To crufty people who are reading this minutes with NMH: please test
NMH! I'm terrified of it.

--- QUERY - ETHERNET CABLES LYING AROUND

jhamrick:
We appear to have more ethernet cables.
geofft:
Bunch of crap for the machine room. I will take care of it.
