Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2010-03-22


The meeting was called to order at 7:30:04 by jhamrick.

Officer Reports:
    jhamrick: We had a hackathon this weekend.  It was awesome.  Over 40
    people came.  The office had over 5 people in it at
    all times, from the start until at least 4AM, which is
    impressive because usually no one shows up on time.
    Lots of projects were worked on. Greg will give a better
    debriefing next year when he's actually here.

SIPB Projects Report:

    jhamrick: Gutenbach is in the process of migrating to CUPS.  The
    filter was patched to work CUPS, as have the
    configuration bits.

    jhawk: Is that a good thing?

    jhamrick: Yes!

    jhamrick: MiTeX is also off the ground.  We have an interface where
    you can input a TeX document and press a button to get it in TeX,
    PDF, or Postscript format.  You can go to
    mitex.mit.edu to check it out!  We finally got a
    hostname an hour before the meeting.

    presbrey:  It uses CUPS too?  *laughter*

    jhawk: Is that a good thing? *laughter*

Office Report:

    lexrj: Do these belong to anyone?  *Holds up small blue glove and
    blue hat*.  If no one claims them, they're getting
    trashed, this has been here for months.

    jhamrick: Thank you, lex, for keeping the office clean.

    jhawk: I'd just like to point out that the first Google hit for
    "MiTEX" shows "Mysterious microsatellites in GEO: is
    MiTEx a possible anti-satellite capability demonstration?" Apparently
    MiTEX is a secret sattelite-related project by DARPA.

    *Phone call* Ken: I'd like to report that calling in to WebEX with
    Google Voice does not work so well because it doesn't
    seem to translate the dialtones I need to enter in the
    codes I need.

    jhawk: So how did you succeed?

    Ken: I called in without Google Voice, using regular phone.

    *Applause/laugh*

    jhawk: So you gave up.

    Ken: Yeah.

    jhamrick: OK, I also want to mention that we are having a membership
    election for Deborah next week.  You should all come,
    it will be fun!
