\section{Library Rules}
\hfill Revised 7/8/95

\vspace{.33cm}

\begin{enumerate}

\item
Circulation of Books

\begin{itemize}

\item
Books are divided into two classes: RESERVE and CIRCULATING.
RESERVE books mostly have orange stickers; all are found in Room 473.
CIRCULATING hardcovers, paperbacks, magazines, hardcover anthologies, and
randoms are in Room 475. {\bf SFWA} books do not have orange stickers
but are nonetheless RESERVE books.

\item
RESERVE materials do not leave the Library except by explicit
permission of the Skinner.

\item
SPECIAL RESERVE materials do not leave the back area
(Damnation Alley) except by request to, and action by, keyholders. Special
reserve items do not leave the Library except by explicit permission of the
Skinner.

\item
CIRCULATING materials may be borrowed by members for up to twenty-one (21)
days.

\item
Members may have a maximum of eight (8) items in circulation
at any one time.

\item
Only a member may sign out books on his/her/its sign-out
sheet. Anyone may return a member's books and sign them in on that
member's sheet.  ALL books signed in or out {\em must}
be countersigned by a KEYHOLDER. Everything must be done in ink,
not pencil.

\item
Books must be returned to the Library. If the Library is
closed, they may be returned in the bookdrop in the door of Room 473.
When books are left in the bookdrop, they must include a bookdrop form
(or other piece of paper or card) with the borrower's
{\em name}, the list of {\em titles}
of books being returned, and the {\em date} on which
they are returned.

\item
If a book is too large to fit through the book drop, leave a note with
your name on it in the book drop indicating so. You will be given an
additional week during which you may return the book with no penalty.

\item
Books may NOT be renewed unless they are physically brought in.
A note requesting that they be renewed is not sufficient.

\item
That the library was closed is not a valid excuse for overdue
books!

\end{itemize}

\item
Food and Drink in the Library

In general, food (including drinks) is not allowed in the
Library. Food is not permitted in the Circulating Room (Room 475)
under any circumstances. Food is NEVER allowed in the Special Reserve
area.  Some non-messy foods {\em may} be
permitted in Room 473 at the discretion of
the keyholder on duty.  NEVER
read or browse through any Library materials with food in your hands.
Your hands should be reasonably clean
whenever reading Library material; if they aren't, wash them.
Kzinti are not permitted to eat the members.

\item
Smoking in the Library

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the Library under {\bf ANY}
circumstances. The violator of this rule may be flogged,
defenestrated, or otherwise suitably punished by the members present.

\item
Bags in the Library

All bags of various types are to be left in the front of the Library, in
the area by the banana-colored couch. They are not to go past the area
of the keyholder desk/computer desk. They are {\bf definitely} not to
go into the stacks. Even {\bf more definitely} are they not to go into
the Circulating Room. {\bf Yet more definitely still} are they not to
go into Special Reserve area.

\end{enumerate}
