I have reached this late point in my senior year without fulfilling the requirement of three HASS-D's in separate categories. I have indeed taken three HASS-D's, but two were in category five, that of Historical Studies, the other being in Language, Thought, and Value. Thus, I am petitioning to be allowed to graduate with this non-standard distribution of HASS-D's. I did not pick my classes to avoid work or uninteresting material; I honestly believed one of my history classes was instead a Cultural Studies class, which is where the emphasis of the class lay. I feel that I have achieved the goals of the HASS-D requirement in that my intellectual range has been broadened and my understanding of the humanities has increased over the last four years. While at MIT I've danced in class and in DanceTroupe, attended a great many theater productions, read a wide variety of books on my own and in classes, and traveled all over the world. In short, I think my range of activities and classes is sufficient to overshadow my accidental overlap of HASS-D's, and that I should be allowed to graduate in June.
