Subject:  Remedy Studies tactics in the Croatan Caves

(Remedy Grey, Angalkuq of the Wendigo, born of humans to the
descendants of the Mattaponi nation, honorably mated to Spring
Sha'pe-she-he e'SH'DAH Grey, Beta and Rites Master of ah-NAH-p'tah,
child of Flame, Guardian of the Medicine Wheel for the Sacred Hoop,
Fostern and Guardian of the Blue Caverns sept. (Glory: 4.0 Honor: 3.7
Wisdom: 7.6 PB: 3})

*Concerned after the Get Lodge destruction and the massacre of so
many Gaians and kin, Remedy wonders how so many could have been
killed. Hearing from a few people like Destiny and hearing recounts
of a survivor, Remedy remembers reading sommething in the Croatan
Caves back when it was first discovered.

During his off-duty shifts as guardian and after explaining to his
mate he had some researching to do, he tries to track down that
memory in the caves. After a while, he emerges. He asks to speak
with Leah, his alpha, Manitou and Barbara-Chango's-Fist-Mendoza and
shows them drawings and writings he has discovered. He says to them
in Dakota...*

Sisters, brother, I've found some words of wisdom in Middle Brothers
caves.

*shows them some crude drawings and writings*

	0 0 0 0	0

0	X	0|0	X	0|	X	0|	X | X

     0 0 0 0 0 0	0

These are strategies Middle Brother used that many of us seem to have
forgotten or are no longer taught. It appears to have been written
by a cliath Ahroun. The "X" represent the enemy, the "0" represent
Garou. Their ways to defeat their enemies were to Yield, Surround
and Hamper, and Attack. Let me explain...

Yield: (pp. 196 of the Revised core book)

The writings say, and I am paraphrasing this, "Whenever possible,
attack with your packmates. Through your spiritual coonection with
your totem spirit, you may be able to act as one (same initiative as
per pp. 194). If you are attacking with Garou of other packs or no
packs at all, then you should yield to your slowest (lowest
initiative) Garou. This way, you may still act as one even though
you are not of the same pack and none will be left alone to face the
wrath of the enemy for being faster. The danger with using this
tactic is that if the enemy proves faster than the slowest Garou,
they may inflict harm on the Garou. However, it also means that they
have to come to Garou and it should be easier to surround them."

(Meaning if players rolled 9, 12, 13, 13, 15 for initiative, everyone
should act at 9. Granted each enemy gets a free attack and may kill
a character [one-hit kills *shudders*], the remaining characters
should be able to beat the enemy to a pulp because of higher
difficulty of the enemy to perform actions against us while being
surrounded.)

*he looks at them*

The problem with many Garou, pack or no pack, is that we tend to act
independently; we think more like mortals who want to be first. We
are Garou! We are supposed to act like it... Now, look at this...

Surround and Hamper: (made this up myself somewhat from pack tactics)

*he points to the five upper "0"'s*

Those are the front of the enemies...or the rear depending upon how
you look at it. The writings say, "Once the Garou has yielded to the
slowest, or a pack acts as one, the objective is to Surround the
enemy as best you can. Put your strongest Garou in front, the
weakest in rear, and the mediocre on the flanks. Doing so Hampers
the enemy, making it more difficult for them to act against you."

Barbara and I learned a while ago that we must act as a pack;
attacking each enemy one at a time /together/ rather than attack each
other independently and unplanned. The writings go on to describe
the three formations I have drawn. They explain that attacking from
the flank and the rear is easier than attacking head on (pp. 209;
flank is -1 diff and rear is -2 diff to attack). It may seem obvious
now, but no one really teaches these tactics to cubs and cliaths.

For the oncoming attack on the hive, we will have many Garou on the
offensive. I do not know how many we will face at the hive.
However, if we could somehow coordinate it such that we attack each
enemy with as many Garou as possible, 3 or 4 minimum, our chances of
heavy casualties decreases...

(I believe its +1 diff for every extra Garou attacking an enemy after
the first Garou. Hence, 5 Garou attacking one enemy should bring the
enemy's difficulty to attack/dodge from diff 6 to diff 10...Unless
the enemy some gift or totem power that lowers diffs [*shudders*].
So, even if one character of 5 dies from the first blow, the 4 other
should still bring the diff to 9. and the enemies will have higher
probability of botching.)

Attack: (Close Combat and Pack Tactics from pp. 208 to 213. Read and
use them!!)

The final writings describe various tactics Garou can use in single
combat or attacking as a pack. *looks to Leah* Waits-to-Speak-rhya,
I have a few suggestions how to proceed from here. I hope you'll
agree with them. *looks to Manitou* Why don't you study those
writings about tactics and teach us what you learn. I'll show you
where they are written. *looks to Barbara* Why don't you make a copy
of these drawings and writings and share them with the Den Mothers.
For they will teach the cubs and cliaths Middle Brother's wisdom. I
hope you'll forgive my poor excuse for drawings. *smiles at the
group, then looks back at Leah* Once Barbara has finished making a
copy, why don't you take the original to WNT-rhya and RM-rhya and
present it to them. "First share of the Kill for the Greatest
Station." In this case is you as our alpha and them as our Elders.
I suspect they would be pleased to accept a token of the knowledge
left to from Middle Brother from you...

(Honestly, none of this stuff may actually be practical when the
battle comes. But, the player felt he needed to do /something/ to
help prevent another massacre.)
