It's always fun to watch the electronic press releases and press
kits that come across the dish. It seemed, however, like a
special honor to catch Paramount's e-kit for the TNG finale
episode, "All Good Things...".

The feed ran slightly over 25 minutes and contained a 3-minute
"featurette;" brief clips of interviews with the cast including
Denise Crosby and John de Lancie; clips of interviews with Rick
Berman, Jeri Taylor and graphics master Mike Okuda;
behind-the-scenes clips; and finished with animated and still
logos.

The "featurette" began with a panoramic shot of the Paramount
lot and included various bits and pieces from the finale. The
storyline for "All Good Things..." features Q rendering his
judgement on mankind, and has Picard and his crew traveling in
time from the series' present, to a point just before the
beginning of Farpoint, to 25 years after they leave the
Enterprise.

In the future, Riker's an admiral. Beverly is the Captain of the
USS Pasteur. All of the other senior officers appear to be
civilians. Geordi has no visor. Data has a grey streak in his
hair and a bit of a tummy. Worf has gone completely Klingon. We
didn't see Deanna, but it was divulged that Worf does indeed
fall for Deanna in this episode, though not in which time frame.

Picard sports a grey beard, and is seen in two scenes: One on
the bridge of Beverly's ship, and another working in the family
vineyards. He is said to be suffering from a degenerative
disease.

Beverly's captain's uniform is a jumpsuit style, long sleeves
with not too much of a high collar. The top is maroon, the pants
black, and the colors divide exactly at the waistline. A placket
seam runs across the bodice, just above the bustline, curving
down to a point on each arm. It is on the seam that Bev wears
her four Captain's pips. Her communicator is highly stylized and
reminded me of Art Deco. (You remember good old Art...)

There's one more surprise factor, which I'll leave for later in
this review.

Interview Clips: There were three from each person, and the
segments began with Patrick Stewart.

Patrick explains how the script has Picard moving back and forth
in time, and encountering his crew in various situations, with
"dramatic changes" in the future time, some that fans might have
expected. He also mentions how much enjoyment and laughter there
was on the set.

Jonathan Frakes talks about Riker's promotion to Admiral, his
liver spots, and the "nasty decisions" he must make about
Picard. He also describes the episode as the ship being in
jeopardy, "for a change" (with a big grin). He describes his
personal feelings on the finale as bittersweet, and the ability
of the cast to work so well together for seven years as "quite
magical."

LeVar Burton is up next, describing his scenes with the aged
Picard. He mentions that this is approximately 12 years after
they have seen each other, but I wasn't certain if he just meant
Picard and Geordi, or everyone. His overview of the series was
my favorite: "A great place between my past and my future."

Michael Dorn puts things into perspective, saying that they are
now "part of the machine," and reminding us that Star Trek will
go on. He also says that he will miss the laughter most, and
talks a little bit about Worf's romance with Deanna, describing
it as Beauty and the Beast.

Gates McFadden brings up the chemistry between Picard and
Beverly, and the near misses on their relationship. She thinks
the title for the episode is wonderful, and says she feels it's
time to go on and try new things...but check with her in five
years to see if she feels the same!

Marina Sirtis is the only cast member to admit to separation
anxiety. She says she may have talked herself into thinking
there would be an eighth season, and won't enjoy saying goodbye:
"...we won't be with our family any more." She describes the
cast as having seven years of fun, "even Patrick."

Brent Spiner says the finale "nicely bookends the entire
series." He talks about his feelings at the beginning of the
series, that no one could do another Star Trek, and thought it
would only run one year. He's prepared to move on and seems
philosophical about the end of the series.

Denise Crosby is up next. She talks about the first reading of
the first script as a fond memory, and how she had no idea that
Tasha was such a "very well-loved character" until she left the
series.

John de Lancie, made up with blue lips, describes Q's role in
the finale as "a last hurdle for [Picard] to jump" and admits
that Q now wants Picard to win and will help him out. He says
that he is proud of the work he's done on the show, and has
enjoyed it.

Rick Berman says that he was very strong on the idea of having Q
return, having the finale reflect the first episode, and having
the finale focus on the "family" and the relationships built
over the seven year run. He also mentions there will be
"important messages and ideas" in this script.

Jeri Taylor, speaking with a twinkle in her eye, says that they
went through quite a few ideas before arriving at the last
episode. You can see her pride in the episode as she describes
it, finishing with the observation, "I really think that it's
going to give all the fans exactly what they want to see at the
end."

Mike Okuda, seated at his Mac workstation, talks about the video
readout displays mounted in the bridge set. He also describes
how they had to create three versions of the Enterprise for the
finale (first season, seventh season, and what it might look
like in 25 years) as well as Beverly's ship, the Pasteur. He
also lets it slip that she is now Captain Beverly Picard!

The behind the scenes footage included: A shot of Riker's age
makeup being touched up; scenes of Picard and Geordi in the
vineyard; Tasha announcing Picard's arrival on day one (with
some pretty anemic piping); on that same day, Picard ordering
Worf, Troi and O'Brien to red alert; a scene with the crew in
the conference room, present day; and then some scenes of the
crew on the blue set and elsewhere.

And that's it! Watch for these components to be reassembled by
your local Trek station as promos and segments for the local
news. Enjoy!
