Take the T to Central Square on the Red Line. When you come out of the station, walk along Massachusetts Avenue towards Boston (this is the Red Line Inbound direction; look for the tall buildings in Boston). When you get to Pearl Street on your right (look for a furniture store on your right across the street), turn right. Follow the directions from Pearl Street below.
Take the Mass Pike to the Allston-Cambridge exit (left exit, number 18). After the tolls, stay right and follow the signs for Cambridge. Follow the exit around to the right until a bunch of roads come together at a set of lights. Go straight through the lights and over a bridge. After you cross the bridge, take a right. You are now travelling east on Memorial Drive. Follow the directions from Memorial Drive below, approaching from the west.
Take Route 2 Eastbound all the way to the end of the highway part in Cambridge. At this point, if you're not familiar with this part of Cambridge, pay close attention, because the streets here are legendary in their complexity.
When the highway ends, stay to the right, and get on Alewife Brook Parkway. This will take you over a bridge, and shortly into a traffic circle. Turn left (go 3/4 around the circle) onto Concord Ave, which will take you almost immediately to a second traffic circle. At this circle, bear right onto Fresh Pond Parkway. Follow Fresh Pond Parkway until you get to the interchange of Fresh Pond Parkway and Memorial drive. Stay to the left to get on Memorial Drive. (This is technically the end of Route 2.)
That's the end of the legendary part. Follow
the directions from Memorial Drive below. You will be approaching
from the west.
Take Memorial Drive to the circle at the BU Bridge. From the
circle, go away from the river (this is 1/4 of the way around if
you're coming from the east, and 3/4 of the way around if you're
coming from the west). This is Brookline Street. Follow the directions from Brookline Street
below.
Take Massachusetts Avenue to Pearl Street, between Magazine Street and
Brookline Street (look for a furniture store). Turn onto Pearl Street
and follow the directions from Pearl Street
below.
Walk up Massachusetts Avenue to Pearl Street (look for the furniture
store shop on the left). Turn left, and follow the
directions from Pearl Street below.
After a few blocks, there is a traffic light. This is Putnam
Avenue. Go straight through the light. Valentine Street is the
second legal left, just after a time and temperature sign on the left.
The first driveway on the right is mine.
Starting from Massachusetts Avenue, Valentine Street is the fifth
legal left. On the left, you will pass some new construction. The
next driveway after this is mine.
Nine Valentine Street is the blue house with red trim and white
garage door in the rear at the end of the driveway. There is a brass
"9" over the garage door.
Part of the driveway is available, but ask first, so you don't park
in the other people who use it.
Some of the parking on Brookline Street on the side opposite Valentine
Street is not permit parking, which means anybody can
use it anytime. Parking on Valentine Street, the other side of
Brookline, and most other streets is permit only. We have exactly one
visitor's permit.
If you have a bike or some other small vehicle, you can keep it in
the garage.
