Every good work of software starts by scratching a developer's personal itch.
I wrote Thokbook because I need it.
Good programmers know what to write. Great ones know what to rewrite (and reuse).
Using perl modules has saved me a lot of work. Other people have solved many of the sub-problems that I needed to solve, and I could use their work freely and easily.
``Plan to throw one away; you will, anyhow.'' this quote is originally from The Mythical Man-Month by Fred Brooks.
I'm not sure if it is really possible to plan to throw your first design away, but I've tried not to be too attached to my initial plans, as various problems have cropped up.
