.I Print_x9700
will print one file on the Xerox 8700 or 9700 printer, run by
Information Services.
It takes an optional argument of the name of the file to
be printed. If the argument is not given, 
.I print_x9700 
will ask for one.

asks the user a series of questions about the desired printing format,
gives an estimate of the cost of printing, gives directions for
picking up output, and queues the file for the Xerox printer.

.SH "PRINTING FORMATS"
With any type of output file, the user has a choice of three types of
paper: archival bond, 3-hole draft, and draft without holes.  There is
also a choice between one-sided and two-sided printing, and the number
of copies desired.

Using
.I scribe (1)
with @device(x9700) will produce an output file (filename.x9700) which
is in a special format for the Xerox printer.
.I Print_x9700
checks to see if the filename supplied to it ends in ".x9700". If it
does, it assumes that it was produced by
.I scribe,
and automatically prints it in control format on the Xerox printer.
NOTE:
.I Scribe
files produced with the (default) device type of "lptln" generally
.I will not look good
on the Xerox printers.  If you try to submit such a file to the Xerox
printer,
.I print_x9700
will request verification that this is really what you want to do.  If
the file name does not end in
".x9700",
.I Print_x9700
checks to see if it is a standard ascii text file.  If not, it refuses
to print the file. Otherwise, it gives the user a choice of 3
fixed-width types: pica (10 characters per inch), elite (12 characters
per inch) and landscape mode (suitable for program listings). For each
of these three types, it automatically adds a left margin of 1 inch.

.SH "PICKING UP OUTPUT"
Output from the Xerox printer can be picked up in the building 11
dispatch area on the second floor, down the hall from the SIPB office.
Unless there are network or printer problems, the output should be
there within one hour.  If there are printer problems in building 11,
the output will be printed in building W91 and shuttled to building
11.  (There is a schedule of shuttle runs at the Dispatch counter.)
Output is Cash-On-Delivery, at 5 cents per printed side (i.e.,
printing two-sided will not be cheaper than one-sided) for the first
copy, 3 cents per side for each extra copy.

.SH BUGS
If a file is in Scribe output format, there is no way to determine the
size of the file.  In this case, no cost estimates are given.

.I Print_x9700
should accept more command-line options, including an indent option,
rather than automatically selecting 1 inch.

Also, print_x9700 is a misnomer.  The building 11 printer is an 8700.
The 9700 is in W91.
