MIT Events Instructions

Listing Events

To see which events are coming up, select a start date from the drop down boxes and enter the number of days you wish to look ahead. Alternatively, type in a keyword instead of selecting a date and a number of lookahead days. The keywords are:
todaytoday's events
tomorrowtomorrow's events
weekendevents through next Sunday.

You can also restrict the event listing by selecting those categories in which you are interested. You can also choose to view events in a compact or a detailed format. The former only lists the date, time, event title, and location; clicking on an event title will give full details about the event. The latter lists full details for all the requested events.

Adding Events

For security purposes, you can only add events from within the MIT network (18.*). Fields marked with an * (and red) are required; thus, you must supply at least a title, date, time, primary category of the activity, sponsor, and an e-mail contact. You can additionally supply additional categories, a location, a WWW page url, any costs, the audience for which this activity is intended, the dress that is expected, and any additional description you wish to provide. Submitted events should get listed immediately. In case you need to cancel or edit an event which you have added, you can use the Event Editing facilities provided or contact eventmaster@mit.edu.

You cannot yet add automatically repeating events. This will be added sometime in the future.

Editing Events

For security purposes, you can only edit events from the same computer on which you added the event. If this is not convenient or possible, contact eventmaster@mit.edu with your request, and they will process it as soon as possible.

To edit an event, make sure you are on the same machine as the one from which you added the event and request a detailed listing that will include the desired event. You should see a link titled [Edit Event]; clicking on this will bring up a page similar to the Add Events page, which will allow you to modify any field you want. You can also completely delete the event by clicking on the Delete this event button at the bottom.
