Subject: New lists

The above three lists have just been created, under the auspices of the
Society of Physics Students.

1. sps
for sps members. I've taken the liberty of deciding that alums can be here,
too. Hence ckclark, who is no longer a student, is on that list.
People can be members of sps without being on the list, if they object to
getting email or something. It's a private list.

2. sps-request
Where you send mail saying, "I want to be on the sps list" or "I don't want
to be on this list anymore." It is in charge of the three lists mentioned
here.

3. physics-students
People who like learning about physics. A public list (meaning anyone can
put themselves on or take themselves off the list). I was thinking of it
being mostly a forum for people interested in hearing about physics
events but who don't want to be sps members per se. Currently, everyone
on sps is also on physics-students.
I don't think this would be a good forum for discussing physics problems
as netnews and discuss are more suited to the task. It would be more for
announcements about colloquia, events, etc.

If you know of anyone who is:
  1. an SPS member who isn't on the sps list but wants to be
  2. someone who isn't on the physics-students list but wants to be
then send mail to sps-request.

To see who's on the sps list, type: (substitute any list for sps if desired)
add consult
expn sps

You can also use listmaint. Type:
listmaint

and follow the menus to do whatever you want.
