(to sipb-discussion, bcc sipb-office, respond to sipb-discussion) So the first thing I'd like to say is that I've been pleased with the discussion that's been going on on sipb-discussion and other lists, there've been useful suggestions and it's increased awareness of some of the issues. I hope sipb-discussion can be as useful in the future :-) First off I'd like to suggest a course of action for keeping the office clean. Keeping in mind that the goals are to: a) have a clean office b) increase people's awareness for the office cleanlieness so that it needs less cleaning c) try to fix the problem incrementally (i.e. not do drastic things to quickly) what I'd like to do is designate every Friday from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm to be an office cleaning hour. Cleaning would include wiping down the desks, reshelving books, cleaning up random items that have accumulated, etc. (a word about recycling below) The time is chosen intentionally to be a high office usage time, folks in the office will be expected to participate and it's also requested that people make a specific effort to be in the office at that time to help clean. Recycling that needs to go behind bexley will still need to be done on Tuesdays as a seperate effort, but what I'd like to see with redeemable cans is that they go down to LaVerdes as flats fill, as opposed to waiting until there are many full flats like we do now. This makes it much less effort for all involved, gives us more space in the office and fewer cans sitting around with bits of soda in them. Money should still be deposited in the cokecomm can in the fridge. I'll also ask that people get used to throwing food garbage in to the trash can in the hall so as to aviod the problems associated with food garbage staying in the office for too long. Secondly I'd like to let people know that in addition to the things that sal is going to recommend getting rid of at the next meeting I'm going to move to get rid of the following items: The cushion, pillow, and blankets on the couch. The empty 1/2 height R^2 enclosures. Airplane. Pickled Herring's Monitor. (see below about VGA monitors) Hodge-Podge. (the reason we're keeping it is spare parts for charon, but it was deemed reasonable by mhpower and jweiss to use lying-naked-in-the-perwinkle for this purpose should it become necessary) The vt100 that is not max. The vt320 (has some problems) The old speakers. OS/2 stuff under bill. The .25 inch tape drive we got from the X consortium. The TK50 (doesn't work) The large thick cable segment. I'm also going to move that we allocate money to get a full height bookself to replace the half height shelf next to bill. What's happening at the same time is that karl is going to look in to getting one or two 4 post dec racks, which we may pay for or may be able to get for free (the rack we have from alex does not exactly suit our needs) The plan would be to place pickled, alf-mushpie, deathtounge and gene-simmons in the rack along with one of the heads that come with the cluster sparcs. According to Karl these are high resolution VGA monitors that come with sun adaptors, and we can make them work with all the machines mentioned above. Lastly I'd like to thank folks who've been making efforts recently to get the office in to better shape, it's been very effective and has not gone unappreciated. Let's give these efforts a shot and see what happens, from there we can see what we need to do about other office cleanliness issuses. kretch
