Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 1/30/84 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by rdz In attendance were Voting members:rdz, wcs, amy, jr, sl, cbf Non-voting members:rk, steve Prospectives:Bill Gimbel, Aya Konishi Guests: ->MTG APPLICATIONS (and EC) We decide to punt this, There are lots of ->mtg applications. Most of them are not very interesting. We decide not to put them in the minutes. Actually, the secretary finds the time to put them in. 1 Urop: $100 -> $300 Thomas Arias text editing, $25 -> $300 Ayala, Mike. final touches:$10 -> $210 Pandava iap course paper:$20 -> $510 Lou, Ellen. resumes, etc: $50 -> $250 Cusek. learning, papers: papers: $100 -> $300 Saul, David. (The secretary misses a few at this point as he checks on MSReese) papers: $50-> $350 Rocco Chairman's Report The Chairman is back, We need an election for treasurer, There are not enough people for membership elections. Jon says it's a lot of fun. Eligible are: Jon Rochlis, Amy Lee, Charles Frankston, Bill Saphir, and others who are not here. Nominations: Amy nominates rf. He accepts. (saying he's not too sure about it and may resign immediately). She nominates jon. He declines. rdz nominates amy. She declines. No. She accepts on the condition that no one votes for her. rdz nominates cbf. He declines. The first time it's a tie. Amy is elected. She resigns. This is probably the shortest term of a treasurer in sipb's history. We vote again. RF is elected by the narrowest of margins. RF: 4 Abstentions: 3 This was all very fun. There are not enough people to elect the prospectives. Ramin has not yet written a budget proposal to Jim Bruce. There has been a proposal to change ALL cutoffs to 6/1. This is reasonable, but we should get a budget proposal in first. Treasurer's Report The treasurer did not do any treasury work last week. He will take checks to the bank next week. We have spent about $88k on users, 8k on sipbadmin, 7k on sipb. We're spending about right on spb/spba. ATHENA REPORT WCS speaks about state of consulting. Athena people seem willing to give us consulting accounts, but want to make sure we're not expected to be "reliable". Further discussion of SIPB's place in Athena next year, as well as how this should affect our IPS budget, if at all. The PDP11/44 should be gotten up for the benefit of the SIPB's credibility. Can't provide any terminals unless we get concentrator to StuCen going as well. Oh well, we should get the concentrator up. WCS would like to write a Unix introduction similar to the NETS. Apparently Athena is planning on merely dumping the 4.2 manual on everyone. OFFICE REPORT RK says we should discuss the status of the loft at the next meeting. People who have a vested interest in the issue should show up then. There is a general discussion of (lack of) manning the office. No brilliant conclusions are reached. COMPUTER SERVICES RDZ talks about an "open" program where users can enter continuation requests online. This could be a priority for cutting down on the random paperwork. TELECOMMUNICATIONS REPORT We sent Bobby Payson a list of all our terminals and their location. We also sent him a corrected list of our terminals that are supposed to be on contract to Bobby Payson. Lots of living groups have not yet sent letters. Allocation meeting will thus be sometime during next week. RK and Don Becker did the rest of the student center wiring. The ADM3A is in poor shape. CBF suggests we replace it by borrowing a VT125 graphics board from Athena and upgrading one of our VT100s. IAP REPORT The organization of the Lisp course could be better. SIPB members have not been present to offer support. OTHER IAP is almost over. RK is planning a skiing trip this Saturday. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 by rdz Minutes taken and submitted by wcs + cbf
