Q: What do you yell at LSC movies to find SIPB members? J: Applesauce! Q: What do you yell at the office to acknowledge someone who's not a member? J: Hi, Lou. Q: What is THE QUESTION, and answer it.... E: Why do you want to become a SIPB member, probably.... B: To be a member who speaks slow, thus helping the secretary. E: I want to be a SIPB member, because without SIPB, Athena would be a disaster; SIPB has saved my neck many times and I want to do the same for other people. J: Well, I've been around here a lot and I've learned a lot from hanging around and I'd like to help others; I have helped some of the people who come in, and I know who to refer them to if I can't help them. B: Let me add: I want to help people who call up with a quetsion that is perplexing to them and seems kind of silly to us. How could any adult human being not know that it's a major job porting Saber? I want to be more patient with people and help other people be more patient. Julie is elected in. Phil is elected in. Bruce is elected in. And there was much rejoicing. We'll wait for key cards.... Office Report: Crowded pit. Telecomm office keeps calling us to ask us if they've finished installing the jacks yet. In the new office. Lots of empty conduits in the new office. New office is W20-557. Associate members can get keys by asking jik@athena.mit.edu Athena Report: Should we discuss xscreensaver now? Restore the old one now or in four days? Do we want to establish an anti-fascism policy on sources? Consensus is that sources should be world-readble, allowing for short-term emergency exceptions. Anyone object to leaving it for another four days? Apparently not. Unanimous agreement to end discussion on xscreensaver. 3600s have started being set up in E40, adding to the vice cell. 750s are going away... Athena has a new full-time docs person (belville) starting Monday. Someone came to SIPB looking for a ws today after looking through most of the other clusters. Athena found a missing cluster on the second floor of bldg 1 recently. Some VS2's and whatnot... They found equipment they never knew they had. Computer Services: Move to terminate. Andrew looked into TUG membership. Turns out IS is already a member. He's looking further. Telecommunications Report: Modems are still losing. Data access numbers (us) are theoretically in the queue. We're going over to bomb E19 sometime. dkk almost has dialup lossage down to 2 modems. The rest of the lossage is telecom lossage. Analog line for beacon is in the same queue. Do we want to get a 19.2Kbaud modem? Uucp could use that rate. Telebit modems $1500 list, 2 for $1500 because we're a UUCP backbone site. Publications Report: We're doing pretty well. R/O Report: We requested a table and 15 amps for Activities midway. jtidwell volunteers to help with the letter for the freshman packet. IAP Report: We don't care. Other: Party report: RSVP real soon now. Even if you're a current member. TELL NANCY OR SHE'LL ASSUME YOU'RE NOT COMING. We've received 13 rsvps so far. Other Other: Jean's back! TeXtris is in the works. The meeting was adjourned at 20:30:43. Minutes taken and submitted by amgreene.
