Athena Report: "Not so bad this past week" -- aaron Still planning on having a release before New Years...despite the fact that Ken (who's in charge of it) doesn't plan for it to be out until the end of January. Athena thinks they can MOVE stuff from the SIPB filesystem. They need to be straightend out on the concept of COPY. Euler Fonts, XPS, LaTeX, TeX...etc. What happens when scribe goes away? Consultants aren't officially saying that it is going away, yet. Scribe license will be renewed at least one year...unkown beyond that. Athena will teach latex mini-courses...have stock answers, etc. This means official athena types will learn latex. Print quotas: 500 pages/student 0.10/page beyond that -- won't get billed until more than $5 have been racked up. Staring next term (January). confusion about one queue for multiple printers -- ask ezra, ilham if you have questions 6.170 outrage: Priam has returned from the dead and turned on. It has experimental kernel to support group quotas. May be very buggy...students don't know about this, yet.... Jackie Stewart going away to OSF. Athena management have decided on their priorities: Customers by priority: 1 - professors 2 - students 3 - companies [sponsors] (DEC, IBM) Goals within athena: 1) providing a robust fault tolerant system 24hrs/day (laugh) 2) continually improve user interface (snicker) 3) define, deliver, and supoort athena software on PC's amd MAC's 4) move to vendor or OSF supported operating systems 5) purchase and import programs for educational purposes 6) exporting athena developed software to world at large Computer Services: giving away a lot of MITVMA accounts.
