This is the fourth time it's happened to 6.170. mhbraun: dialups are running parkinitd, meaning if you rkinit, your homedir's attached and you're added to /etc/passwd. there's a script in /mit/dialup called klogin that will deal with load-balancing... marc: when do you get removed? mhbraun: cleanup... four times an hour. People should start advocating the use of this. mhbraun: pesto is running ktelnetd, too. yandros: macs can ktelnet, and there's a linux version of ktelnet. We've got a number of measures in place to keep it okay for now... ghudson: sipb discuss archive? I think we should have the archive available to people. I'll make a motion, then we'll have discussion. I move we allow sipb members to get on the acl for the discuss meeting. mhbraun: warlord was chairman when it was set up, and there was discussion and warlord and mhpower were active in the discussion last time this came up. yoav: Maybe we should completely start over with a less fascist archive. yandros: The reason we created it was that we had need for old mail at the time and someone just happened to have it, and we thought archiving it would be a good idea. ghudson: I'd rather not accept yoav's amendment. marc: I remember one argument having to do with the possibility people might act differently if they know the list is being archived. mhpower: is this going to be an archive of the sipb list or sipb-members? yandros: the list that is currently sipb will be archived there. yoav: I don't see that as a fair argument, because people can still send the mail to people personally if they don't want it archived. sorokin: Does anyone have any PERSONAL objection with the sipb list being archived? not because 'other people may be annoyed by it' but because YOU will? No. jweiss: I think the sending mail a week before doing it to allow for objections is a good idea. yandros: seconds the motion. rjbarbal: Who's going to be in charge of expunging it? sorokin: ...irrelevant... Can we vote now? ghudson: The motion was to allow sipb members to have themselves added to the acl for the sipb discuss meeting. Motion passes many-0-1. mhbraun: how 'bout richard's concern of expunging the meeting? marc: expunging meetings on charon has always been rather haphazard. mhbraun: philosophically do we want this to be saving all sipb mail or just a recent archive? blah blah... the contents of the meeting will be archived forever. mhpower: clarinet newsgroups will be different starting next sunday - read clari.net.announce. ghudson: I'm going to put my nnrpd changes into production in a few weeks. jweiss: What about clarinet? Any word on the legal situation? tytso: I pointed Connie Mitchell at you guys. mhpower: she got info from us. abbe will make sure kathy doesn't give them money without our approval. yandros: I think people who are interested in the 486 discussion should become more interested and talk with greg. ghudson: I've ordered catalogs from Dell and IBM...
