Happy Birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Jessie.... and Jeff... and Richard... and .... Happy Birthday to you! Office Report: the office is a pit (really). the mic on lola is broken. details ~> jhawk eichin: is bill-the-cat as hosed as it used to be? No, it's disk was replaced. (yay) dkk generated (Yet Another) srvtab for bill-the-cat. jhawk's sun3 is in the machine room now, freeing up some desk space. MIT Computing Report: gsstark: Ugh! Ugh!! Big guy!!! Big Bad Guy!!! ghudson found a (particular) bug in the zephyr servers. Fixing it may cause things to work better. ghudson speculates it's the fault of lwvanels (blame it on people who left a long time ago ;-). there was a (bad) bug in kerberized telnet until recently. The -safe option wasn't very. Get the new stuff ASAP. Computer Services: ghudson: a patch was applied to bloom-beacon (the sparc5) to try to fix a problem with it falling off the net. results currently undertermined. mhpower: we got mail from someone at ncd.ncd.com complaining that we fingered at his host. This doesn't seem weird. jhawk: lola-granola is serving qotd now. (telnet granola 17) limekiller falls off the net. lola-granola's mic was fixed by mycroft. rosebud2 misplaced it's SCSI bus earlier, resulting in a SIPB AFS outage of about 1 hour. We need to redo cabling, which should fix it (more permanently than it's fixed now, that is). usenet-addresses service is now running on penguin-lust. It's currently taking up 700M of disk space. We're thinking of reworking it so that it only takes up 80-100M of disk space. (which is better, in case you didn't notice :-) 16MB of memory was added to bloom-picayune, making it *harder* to get anon ftp connections. Ask mhpower for details (it's kinda neat). Course of action: undetermined. the athena.* newsgroups heirarchy are (hopefuly) not getting postings from outside now. the newsgroup alt.romance.chat is now kept as long as other alt groups now. (it used to be in the quick-kill group with alt.binaries) someone dumped web-related files in penguin-lust's ftp dir without telling anyone. This is ungood. SIPB Backup Report: mhpower: it's being done. It should be done soon. yoav did some machine backups recently Publications Report: We got 'em. harrisj: kick Jake to remind him to finish iXresources. cordelia and mib@gnu.ai.mit.edu volunteer to kick him. R/O Report: '() IAP Report: NetBSD class needs a room. abbe: The Linux and NetBSD classes need to get organized RSN. TALK TO ABBE. THIS MEANS YOU. jered: babbles some. CokeComm Report: dkk got us coke. Thank him. Other: people in Japan can lose their accounts for running zephyr. net.Genesis is now a member of W3O (Da Web Consortium) harrisj wants 10Base-T cable so he can have the world's first roving HTTP server. mhpower is writing a 2 minute Assassin game called `Shades of Gray' about Athena Public Facilites. ask him for details. (this seems weird) eichin: DES in elisp wasn't as hard as he'd thought. feel sorry for him Other Other: jcb: HAppy Birthday to lots of people, including jcb. jered: vorlon.mit.edu might be willing to host CGI scripts. mail to jered@mit.edu. harrisj: the AI Lab Olympics are coming soon. URL (and details) from harrisj. jhawk: found ash inside fiber and pulp in w20-575. This seems wierd. jtkohl: the recording of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and BSO performing Berlioz's Requiem is available on RCA Victor Red Seal. (John sang in this). It's 76 minutes on a single disk (which also seems weird). there's a new CERT advisory about NFS problems. This is not deemed worthy of Computer Services, somehow. mib@gnu.ai.mit.edu: the Japanese are strange and different in many ways. Also, there are many job openings for sysadmins and English tutors there. jhawk: some people in the IETF are attempting to reclassify RIP into Historical. mib: Nooo!!! jhawk: Yeeess! The meeting was adjourned at 19:54:03. Minutes taken and submitted by yandros.
