The webmasters are in charge of our web page. hartmans: Why are the webmasters doing this? jhawk: I mean, I think the secretary should deal with the web page instead of the webmasters. Office Report: mhpower: Monty has left us 2 large wooden pillars (speakers). ghudson: and a splufty amp. rjbarbal: and cool blinkenlights. jhawk: opus is broken. video anomalies, and crashes randomly. jhawk: windows 95 demos are being denigrated in the office. jhawk: It's probably a bad idea to hang things from lights. ghudson: quiche's color is flakey. Someone has probably shoved its video cable in the wrong place, which bends it 90 degrees and ruins the cable. MIT Computing Report: Computer Services: jered: The outland locker was reorganized, possibly not very well. Some symlinks broke; they've gotten better. ghudson: The sipb cell is a little better since the Seagate drive works on ronald-ann. rosebud is probably broken, but nobody from hotline has back to him to deal with it yet. mhpower: If anyone is planning on allocating the entire hardware budget immediately, they should think about getting another disk for the web server. SIPB Backup Report: ghudson: With jweiss not being around, backups don't seem to have gotten done. Someone should make sure they get done. Publications Report: jhawk: We're out of iLaTeX and iAFS. We haven't allocated money for iAFS, but have for iLaTeX. Also, we only have one copy left of iZephyr. ghudson: Move to allocate money for up to 100 copies each of iAFS and iZephyr. White-ballotted. R/O Report: abbe: Tours are Thursday September 7th. We need people to be tour guides: at least three We also need people to buy food on thursday. We also need volunteers to design a poster, copy it, and poster the institute. Motion to allocate $75 for food and money for up to 50 copies of a poster, white-balloted. IAP Report: CokeComm Report: kcr: we need more. Other: mhpower: A security problem involving syslog was announced a week ago. Various solutions have been proposed. It might be more widely fixed within a week. mycroft: The NetBSD source has fixes for the syslog security problem. jered: Patches for the linux syslog are in comp.os.linux.system.announce hartmans: Having linux on your laptop is really cool. Especially when it actually talks. kcr: I'm looking for testers for athena-ized version of pine. yonah: Getting things to display on cutter-john is not fun. jhawk: SIPB has acquired a Bill Clinton [mask]. rjbarbal: There's a bike lock that's been floating around the office.
