Office Report: ghudson: I wanted to clear up confusion about roles of PC's in the office. We have 3 PC's in the room, namely cutter, granola, and zorp which are dedicated as build machines, and should not be rebooted to play games. We have zsr which is not ours and should probably only run NetBSD, and we have quiche and lime which are just office heads, so they don't need to run a specific OS, but should be useful heads when not in use. kretch: Do we still want Windows 95 on quiche. ghudson: We got Windows 95 with zorp, which is not what we got with identical machines for E40. It's still there, so we can transfer it to quiche. nocturne: We moved the tables along the west wall about a foot [further from the door], so that fastcart can get in the room easier. the cabinets can still open. fastcart: Thank you. mhpower: Is this temporary? nocturne: I don't think so. eichin: If someone wants to move them back, someone should get the one-page on ADA requirements. MIT Computing Report: '() Computer Services: ghudson: Another replacement disk came in, it's currently on hodge; I'll be testing it overnight. Since I couldn't change the scsi id on the drive, the tape drive is not on. If someone needs to use the tape drive overnight, they can remove the disk. I'll schedule an outage soon, and I'll be moving volumes in preparation, so it should be short. SIPB Backup Report: jweiss: Also related, there is an AFS backup going on right now. AFS wasn't done last week, but everything else was. Publications Report: marthag: We're out of iBitmap. Someone came in and asked for it. kretch: we're almost out of iLatex, NetNews, and iAthena. jweiss: move to allocate up to $25 for 50 copies of iBitmap. White ballot. nocturne volunteers. [post-meeting, harrison volunteers to deal instead of nocturne. nocturne happily delegates.] R/O Report: '() IAP Report: '() CokeComm Report: kretch: Rachel is god. nocturne: We have egregious amounts of candy in the back of the office. jweiss: It's good that people are loading the fridge, but people should look in the fridge before putting more in. Other: ghudson: CVS presentation at 9:00, in 1-390. mhpower: There was a message on bugtraq today apparently seriously suggesting that there are advantages to paper tape and punch cards which have been lost with disks. marthag: They just don't make good note cards or bookmarks. elliot: I'm still testing my ClariNet to zephyr gateway; if you're interested, talk to me. Other Other: fastcart: I'll be back in the fall [as a student]. jweiss: Ball bearings aren't supposed to be flat on one side. eichin: Don't write to stdin. ghudson: To move tables, pull, don't push, especially if they have fold-out legs. marthag: I just finished a 3 year old problem set. kretch: On the Muppets Tonight this week, they did the phenomena joke we've been doing. danw: Anyone subbed to class moira should punt instance "hi marc". svalente: Post meeting ultimate? jweiss: I'm interested in going to the clue dump instead. [clue dump is at 9; ultimate may happen before it] The meeting was adjourned at 19:45. Minutes taken and submitted by yonah.
