Chairman's Report: cordelia: I'm going to be investigated for a security clearance. If someone comes in to ask questions, answer them and be polite. yonah: I move to nominate foley for membership. Passes 7-0-0 Elections will be the third meeting of the term. Office Report: jweiss: During the May 27th meeting we made motions regarding getting rid of RT's and Milo. It said: "by the second meeting after Reg Day, Fall Term, 1996, all SIPB RT hardware be removed from the office and machine room". I would like to amend the motion to say "between the first and fifth motions" Passes (white ballot) MIT Computing Report: jhawk: On October 1, 1996 the combo will allegedly change to [removed]. danw: ACMG minutes had mumblings that MIT go to an all NT system and force every incoming frosh to buy an NT box, and get rid of UNIX altogether. jweiss: It was probably not actual members of the ACMG who proposed this but just others at the meeting. Computer Services: warlord: I've been working away on a new Linux distribution (based on Redhat). I've been completely rebuilding the athena sources. I'll be testing on limekiller, so it will be repeatedly reinstalled. SIPB Backup Report: yonah: I think everything was done. Publications Report: srz: I asked for more cluster cards. We will get them soon. Really. yonah: I picked up more iLaTeX yonah: We also have some 'Welcome to Athena' packets. R/O Report: cordelia: We'd better get a sucker soon. An anonymous caller reported it. jhawk: multicast routing sucks. mkgray: I replaced the .zwgc.desc language with perl. Talk to me if you're interested in testing mhpower: There is a bug in resolv+ which allows reading arbitrary files as root under linux. telnetd was commented out in keesh & cutter's inetd.conf warlord: If you want to help with above mentioned linux stuff, let me know. Other Other: jtkohl: The first of the last five B5 episodes aired in the UK yesterday. With luck we'll get tapes here this week. cordelia: On Friday, 21 people went to Z'ha'dum and died. In October 21 more people may go. (SIK game) warlord: Transarc screwed up and accidently copied some non exportable files including libdes to an export directory for AFS.
