Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 11/11/96 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by yonah. Office Report: ghudson: Cutter now lives where cutter is now, pickled-herring lives where cutter was before. Mail was sent. MIT Computing Report: danw: The class of 1996 deactivation won't be happening until January. Reasons include the alumni email forwarding not being ready until then. There are also more Athena related reasons. hartmans: The Kerberos development team failed to make local history. ghudson: I released Hesiod 2.0 a few days ago; I will probably release Hesiod 3.0 this week. The main change will be a recommendation that people use class IN instead of HS. Computer Services: ghudson: UPSes are in the machine room; no one has dealt. I might deal soon. ghudson: I was considering getting a Dec Storageworks enclosure. They only want to sell enclosures with disks. This is not what we want. If people have info such as phone numbers of vendors that sell enclosures they would like us to use, they should contact me. SIPB Backup Report: hartmans: AFS is happening; would people object to doing an archival backup? ghudson: DLT tapes are more expensive than exabytes. Doing archival backups on exabytes might be an option. [hartmans will mail sipb-afsreq] Publications Report: yonah: Down to about 6 Installing NetBSD and out of Working on Athena cards. ghudson: Installing NetBSD will be changing. yonah: George will deal with getting the Athena cards. CokeComm Report: () Other: eichin: My Perl script passed its hello world test. mhpower: The URLs in MITDIR for pages on the other server usually start http://mit.edu/ mhpower: There are 565 news groups that we don't have in the clari.web hierarchy. They contain apparently the same content in HTML format; separate groups include images. We may get these as early as this week, although we are not sure how much space they take up. danw: There is a new version of mrtest.
