MIT Computing Report: '() Computer Services: ghudson: We ordered a Dell. SIPB Backup Report: fubob: I contacted ADS any they said the 8505 is being discontinued. They suggested an Eliant. Should we get one of those? jweiss: If we buy a higher-density tape drive, I would suggest that we use it in a mode that can be read by any 8505 drive. jweiss: Last week ASO loaned the SIPB an exabyte 8500 tape drive. This was insufficient for the SIPB's needs becuase it could not read the tapes we had written on our 8505. I found an 8505 tape drive which we could loan to SIPB (I'm not sure if it's ASO's or not). We may not be able to keep this for very long, so we should order the new tape drive soon. charon is now backing up. jered: According to Exabyte's web page, the Eliant 820 is pretty much identical to the 8505.
