Our cables should have decent homes. ghudson: We have an O2. jered: No, we have a blue toaster. ghudson: And it runs Irix 6.3. elliot: I've been looking into getting shelves for the rack. If you know of any suppliers, let me know. jweiss: We have an excessive number of keyboards and mice. Keyboards: 1 sun4, 1 sun5, 2 small Mac, 5 "bad" PC, 4 "better" PC, 1 Microsoft "Natural", 3 LK201, 2 LK401. Mice: 1 old Sun optical, 1 new Sun optical, 2 Mac, lots of PC. ghudson: I gave a couple of keyboards to SIPB at some point in time. jweiss: Move to get rid of 3 LK201s, 4 PC keyboards, 1 old Sun optical mouse, 1 broken DEC hockey-puck mouse, and a reasonable number of old PC mice at the discretion of the Office Czar in Charge of Special Operations. [Seconded. White ballotted.] jweiss: Move to get rid of extra MacII ethernet card from banana at the discretion of the Office Czar in Charge of Special Operations. I think someone gave it to us a while ago. [Seconded. White ballotted.] jweiss: While cleaning, we found some more RT boards. Since we voted to get rid of all RT stuff before, I'm going to get rid of it. There will be an auction after the meeting. marc: I think there has recently been inappropriate use of SIPB machines. Specifically, using hot seat machines in a way that others can't use them at the console or remotely. ghudson: I don't think it's relevant whether you can use them remotely. marc: It is if you're not at the console, and wont explain what you're doing with the machine. kretch: We should try to keep hot seat machines usable for answering questions. ghudson: We'll be getting an Ultra, I'm guessing in six weeks. I suggest the Classic should go to where dt is, and dt should go away. jhawk: I move that the Ultra be placed where bart-savagewood reside. [Seconded.] yandros: Machine location does not need to be discussed at a meeting. marc: Is dt old enough to be deactived? ghudson: Yes. Also, I think this idea sucks. kretch: I disagree with it. nygren: I think a machine that people will want to play with should be somewhere all people can access it. [Motion fails 3-many-few.] zardos: These tables are too tall and are going to cause people permanent wrist damage. ghudson: They already have. Office Cleaning Report: jhawk: There was still sticky Coke residue on Saturday. People should do a better job of cleaning up. MIT Computing Report: ghudson: Patch release tonight. Computer Services: ghudson: News is looking into buying a fairly spiffy Ultra. You can read the usenet meeting for more information. If you can't read it, talk to me. jhawk: I found a failed disk sitting around the office. I got an RMA for it and will be sending it back to ADS. mhpower: We made the web server be different. jhawk: beacon got a second processor. penguin-lust's processor was demoted. SIPB Backup Report: kretch: I'll start AFS after the meeting. jweiss: Most of the machines got backed up last week. I don't know if they all did, but I suspect so. Publications Report: kretch: We're in good shape. R/O Report: '() IAP Report: kretch: We should get an IAP sucker. ghudson: We need someone to play with web pages and such. kretch: This is a good thing for a prospective to do. sepherke: I'm going to do it. I've talked to people about it already. CokeComm Report: '() Other: danw: I'm getting a UROP. ghudson: Apple made some announcements today. jhawk: WorldCom bought MCI today. jered: Apple made announcements and they were boring. MCI agreed to be bought be WorldCom.
