Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 08/22/2005 The meeting was called to order at 7:31 by arolfe. In attendance were Voting members: janetryu rayhe jtu kchen arolfe Associate members: deberg lnemzer jhawk asedeno jmorzins | oschwar Prospectives: cporter awozniak danjared aerynne markan annag zev tabbott yoz Guests: Treasurer's Report: arolfe: nothing! Chairman's Report: jtu: shirts are here! They'll be distributed in a few minutes. jtu: I'd like to nominate woz! She coordinated the SIPB office move out and move back in. This is hard. jhawk: Especially when she's supposed to be writing her thesis. jtu: she answers users' questions and hangs out here and does publicity. arolfe: Do you accept? awozniak: Yeah, word. arolfe: Real chairman will schedule election when you're back. Office Report: jhawk: I sent email, to avoid the problem we had before, we should buy nifty cable housing. I move $125 for this for desks not against the wall. http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/111/gfx/large/7578kp1l.gif jtu: I'd like to allocate $40 for the new O'Reilly book RT Essentials. jhawk: RT sucks. deberg: second. jtu: I move that that box should be disposed of at the discretion of me or the Office Czar in charge of Special Operations. jhawk: I want the umbrellas. jhawk: Duct tape pulled paint off the walls and then they painted, so there's plaster dust. There are holes in the wall. I rehung the gong, don't remove the second (safety) cable. deberg: I move that we get rid of the G3 in the rack at the discretion of the Office Czar in charge of Special Operations.. I sent mail and nobody wanted it, but people spoke for the other two machines. jhawk: They also messed up the maroon trim around the doorway and CAC said they would fix it the next time they're painting in maroon. deberg: I move that we dump the 386 with CD burner since no one has used it in months at the discretion of the Office Czar in charge of Special Operations. jhawk: The machine is more puntable than the burner. Let's just punt the machine. deberg: We tried to keep cables off the floor to make it easier to vacuum. We should keep it that way. awozniak: The table in the back is full of things that haven't found homes. Please find homes for them. arolfe: The bookshelf hasn't been sorted. Fun for you! MIT insurance is going to replace the wet ones for us. jhawk: Where is the list? awozniak: In my Public. arolfe: The stereo works. Someoen should make lpd work on Linux, right now it queues two things. arolfe: I moved to get rid of the MSDN CDs if Josh didn't want them and he didn't. I'm dumping them. arolfe: I move that as of October 1, SIPB donate to LAMP unwanted CDs from the office CD collection and return the rest to their owners because no one uses them. jhawk and aerynne: We use them. janetryu: LAMP is easy to use and takes up less space. jhawk: LAMP is in mono, not stereo and the sound quality of CDs is better. I don't think the need for the space is pressing. kchen: Don't you have to use a pre-built program on LAMP? jhawk: Yes, but that's not a strong objection. awozniak: Some of them are really funny. They should be relocated like the old documentation in the back of the monolith. <4-4-1 motion fails> someone: Maybe we should consider this again with more people around. Office Cleaning Report: someone: The office is kind of clean. jhawk: I think we should get back in the habit of having the office vacuumed again. arolfe: Then someone should talk to CAC and give them a key. I will do this. MIT Computing Report: arolfe: Athena 9.4 goes up tonight. janetyu: Oh, no. My zephyrgrams show up with a grey instead of a white background on 9.4. yoz: You should now report printer problems to web.mit.edu/acis/help.html or acis-help-printers@mit.edu. jmorzins: There's a company handling printer maintenance and we've been requested to not turn off printer queues off so readily. Take paper out and leave a sign instead. jhawk: There's a reasonable chance that this will result in a net decrease of service to users, so we might think about this from an advocacy standpoint. Computer Services: arolfe: bloom-beacon is logging disk errors again. Maybe if I take all the memory out, it'll stop. Publications Report: Orientation Report: tabbott: We were having issues getting w92 to be available, but that's solved. Our sites are going to be w91, w92, n42 and the something group Media Lab on September 7 from 7 to 10. We might start here or we might start in Lobby 7. Do we have someone for the Midway yet? awozniak: No, just keithw and his sportscast thing. It's September 2 from something like 4-7 and our one table will be Sportscast, and us with tattoos and stuff. We will be fined if we forget to check in. aerynne: There are frosh. IAP Report: CokeComm Report: aerynne: I'm doing something soon about it. Other: deberg: I'm looking for a good web designer. Help me out! cporter: I'm looking for a place to live between 1st and 8th St in Cambridge. Help me out! someone: How about Third St? Other Other: jtu: I hate shirt colors. someone: Thank you Jen Tu for the shirts. everyone: Thank you! The meeting was adjourned at 7:58. Minutes taken and submitted by aerynne.
