Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 10/2/2006 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by jbarnold. In attendance were Voting members: jbarnold tabbott aseering kchen presbrey arolfe mshaw nelhage Associate members: jemorris ocschwar asedeno Prospectives: k_lai mathmike mitchb tilia danjared | andersk quentin jwalden mclamb Guests: best spang Treasurer's Report: k_lai: He said he didn't have anything. Chairman's Report: jbarnold: I don't have anything. MIT Computing Report: jbarnold: The cluster combo changed. SIPB Projects Report: mitchb: The next Cluedump is this evening. Some guy is giving a talk on scripts.mit.edu, and it is happening in less than an hour. peanut-gallery: Who's that? What's that? tabbott: Speaking of scripts, jbarnold replaced the OpenAFS kernel module today and in the process upgraded from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2. OpenAFS 1.4.2 has the new keyring pag support, which broke things. scripts has also given machines back their original hostnames. jbarnold: Yeah, the changes I made were for OpenAFS 1.4.1 to 1.4.2, but other files within afs had changed, so at runtime there were other differences that broke things. tabbott: The web comment form has been spouting a lot of spam from various bots to sipb@mit.edu (and used to do so to scripts until I removed that option), so I want to make it stop doing it. aseering: Are there any people who use the form? tabbott: They are no people. I think I'm just going to remove it completely because it's within my purview. If you want to do something to fix it in a different way, you should do it. quentin: I wanted to do an email-based finger gateway to do text-messaging to phones. I determined the best way to do this is with the Data Warehouse, but I need to specify a student group affiliation for that purpose. May I specify SIPB? jbarnold: Yes. mitchb: If you missed Cluedumps in the past, you can access the wiki that shows the schedule and past abstracts and slides at http://web.mit.edu/cluedumps. jbarnold: Paul Graham is giving a talk on Wednesday at 7:00PM in 54-100. It is called "The College Student's Guide to Startups": Paul Graham is an essayist, programmer, and programming language designer. In 1995 he developed with Robert Morris the first web-based application, Viaweb, which was acquired by Yahoo in 1998. For more information about this talk and the speaker, see http://reminder.mit.edu, from which you can also sign up for an email reminder before the talk. tabbott: Jeff went through a lot of trouble to get the title and abstract of the talk. jbarnold: Yeah, it took 7 emails and a phone call [over a 2 week period] to produce the title and abstract. nelhage: And generate Paul Graham's wrath towards him! jbarnold: Yeah, Paul Graham was not happy about me wanting to know the title of the talk 5 days before the talk. Office Report: tabbott: A guy came in to fix meadow today. It was discovered that it was not the duplexor that was at fault but a piece of paper jammed underneath it. It now works. Office Cleaning Report: Publications Report: CokeComm Report: Orientation Report: IAP Report: tabbott: k_lai and tilia have volunteered to be the SIPB IAP coordinators for this year. (applause) tilia: tabbott, I demand that you teach a class over IAP! jbarnold: He accepts! mshaw: jbarnold! two classes! nelhage: mshaw, what are you teaching? mshaw: Nothing! Other: Other Other: jwalden: In addition to kerberos being authentication, it's a stuffed toy now. tabbott: It's actually a stuffed animal of Fluffy from the Harry Potter movie. danjared: fluffy is also a cname for kerberos!
