Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 10/16/2006 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by jbarnold. In attendance were Voting members: jbarnold kchen arolfe presbrey nelhage aseering tabbott | jhawk golem Associate members: jemorris hartmans ocschwar | jtu Prospectives: k_lai mathmike mitchb | tilia Guests: Treasurer's Report: jbarnold: He's not here. Chairman's Report: jbarnold: I have nothing. MIT Computing Report: kchen: General external connectivity has been going down for a few seconds at a time throughout today. mitchb: Have people noticed that barracudas not doing so well anymore? (consensus of yes; no clear reason why) jhawk: Maybe you should ask them. SIPB Projects Report: mitchb: The Cluedump series continues today in just over an hour when hartmans is going to talk about kerberos and related technologies in 3-133. tabbott: Take note that it's 8:40PM, not 8:30PM today (special for this week). Office Report: tabbott: Supposedly the NFL rules, which we foolishly ordered, appears to have arrived. mitchb: What's the NFL? tabbott: National Forensics League. jhawk: Recently, filters on our air handlers were changed. At some point, they seem to have changed from being replaced once every three months to once every year, which seems to be ineffective, but supposedly recently it has been changed back. I'll believe it when I see it. jhawk: This phone (pointing to the one next to bart-savagewood) stopped working because the tab on the phone cable got broken off and the cable got pulled past the rack. It seems to me that this is not something that would have happened unnoticed. wdaher and I heroically moved the file cabinet aside and fixed the cable and it now works. On another note, we are now low on RJ45 connectors, so I am going to buy some more as part of my ability to buy office supplies. jhawk: Someone broke one of the cool red rulers that mathmike's holding. It's cool because it's transparent and red and not green.. Office Cleaning Report: tabbott: There's a lot of random stuff in the 2-foot radius of jhawk's area. People should clean stuff up. mitchb: Regarding the complaint that jhawk and other people were having about the fridge a few days ago, it seems to me that if we rotated the fridge that the problem would fix itself. Is there any problem with doing that? jbarnold: If we mounted it from the ceiling, the problem would also be fixed. mitchb: Yes, then there would be nothing in the fridge. jbarnold: We could have a trough underneath. nelhage: What exactly was the complaint? mitchb: The hinges on the fridge make it open the wrong way. jbarnold: tabbott and I were reading some of the old policies, and apparently people were generally allowed to go and rearrange the office. mitchb: But nobody would be pissed off? jhawk: Maybe I'm confused, but we would lose some space? Maybe I'm not understanding the proposed idea. Publications Report: jbarnold: It appears that we have all the publications we need. tabbott: Do we need more cluster cards? jbarnold: No, there's a bunch here. CokeComm Report: jhawk: I bought all the Coke that La Verde's had in canned form and some other stuff. Orientation Report: IAP Report: tilia: IAP is sooner than you think, and you should teach a class. Also, I am looking for a freshman co-teacher for the Crash Course in C to teach with mshaw because it'd be good to have someone know how to teach it in the future. jbarnold: You should perhaps email the freshmen prospectives. jemorris: Perhaps could email sophomores as well. tilia: People should email me about what classes to teach. I'll be bugging people later to find teachers for certain classes after I look them up. Other: jtu: I started working at a new job at Akamai today. If people want to work there, you should give me your resume. Other Other: mathmike: The Task Force on the Undergraduate Educational Commons has submitted a large proposal. There might be some things that people don't want happening. tabbott: I sent a large email about stuff that people won't want to happen, but it doesn't include what people might want to have happen. jhawk: I'm going to be talking to the Stellar people to make it better. If people have input, you should talk to me. The meeting was adjourned at 19:42. Minutes taken and submitted by k_lai.
