Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2007-05-07 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by tabbott. MIT Computing Report: hartmans: MIT KfW 3.2 was released last week, to everyone except MIT. MIT has an additional process to decide whether it wants to use software it’s written. That process has started. This version of KfW seems to have a much less cluttered and easier user interface than previous versions. For example, when you’re logging it, it asks you for your name and password, and not anything else. The other cool thing is that people on the Kerberos team know how to build it. SIPB Projects Report: tabbott: I heard from Mark that he will be sending us a switch soon. I think the new UPS was also ordered. nelhage: It is either ordered or will be ordered imminently. jbarnold: So we currently have 1000 pounds of UPS coming our way? tabbott: Invite all your strong friends. danjared: I have started working on setting up the new IPv6 machine. I’m thinking I might want an allocation of an IP address for it (an IPv4 address on 18.181). hartmans: White ballot? tabbott: Objections? hartmans: Yes. Why can’t you use sipb-server-n until you’re ready to deploy, and then use limekiller? danjared: I’d like to use limekiller for more experiments. hartmans: Objection withdrawn. jbarnold: There exists this phone project, and we had one meeting today. Office Report: mathmike: Move to allocate $8.20 for twenty “forever” stamps that will be good FOREVER! mitchb: We may lose these stamps before they expire. jbarnold: Why does SIPB need to buy stamps? tabbott: Because we have to mail rebates and stuff. jbarnold: So are they for only official SIPB business? I’m opposed to turning the office into members’ personal Kinko’s. spang: I brought three boxes of Ubuntu Feisty CDs. To do this, ask cfox. hartmans: Please confirm that he really meant that before asking cfox. mitchb: You could zephyr -c sipb and someone from ops will eventually do it. hartmans: cfox may very well have said to ask cfox, and if so, that’s what you should do. tabbott: It sounds like asking cfox is the right thing to do. jwalden: There are three books I’m interested in getting for the office library: “Lisp in Small Pieces” $80, “Linux Kernel Development” $33, and “Garbage Collection” $80.75. lockhart: The power supply for the Hitachi LCD came to $25. tabbott: Move to allocate $25. hartmans: Does the new treasurer have SAP bits? kchen: Yes. Education Report: mitchb: It looks like we’re okay on stuff. I did want to note that geofft is actively messing with my iDiscuss experiment. He felt the need to learn about Discuss and decided to do so by taking the office copy and leaving the one user copy alone. Cheater. mitchb: We are down to three iAthenas, none of which is the office copy. danjared: Do we have iDebathena yet? hartmans: Do we have Debathena yet? nelhage: Oh, we were going to ask you about that.
