Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2008-04-21


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by price.

In attendance were

Officer Reports:

	kaduk: I've prepared an estimated budget for the fourth quarter of
		2008, and sent it out for review.  If there are no more
		comments on it, I'm going to make the changes price requested
		and send it on so that OIS can tell us how much money we can
		spend.
	jhawk: Sent... to sipb-ec?
	kaduk: Yes.

SIPB Projects Report:

	price: We're in the middle of a hackathon.  quentin and I just
		raced back into the office from starting the install of a test
		server for sipb-xen.  sipb-xen is doing work to prepare to
		scale up to the whole MIT community.  We're working on
		paravirtualization, and on scaling to multiple host machines.
	mathmike: What's paravirtualization?
	quentin: Instead of having to virtualize all of the hardware, you
		implement a software interface.  It involves using a special
		kernel, and can achieve better performance.
	price: sipb-xen had a productive meeting with its IS&T sponsors last
		week.

	tabbott: debathena is doing various updates, including the afuse
		automounter, an msmtp sendmail replacement, a dotfiles package
		update removing Irix, Sun, etc. compatibility code.  We may do
		a hardy build later tonight.
	price: Anyone interested in getting involved with debathena, the hardy
		build might be a good thing to be at.

Office Report:

	price: There are a lot of people in the office right now.

Other:

	wdaher: The SIPB-HCS barbeque happened on Saturday.  I thought it was
		delicious.  Not many HCS people came.
	price: Four, if you count me and rishig.
	geofft: We ran out of burgers.
	wdaher: If you came on time, you got a burger.  That's the way *I*
		run barbecues.
	price: It started on time!

	quentin: It's a long weekend.

Other Other:

	quentin: Drop Date is Thursday.

	jhawk: Post-meeting Ultimate Report: it appears we haven't had it
		since 2000.  We should do it again.
