Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2008-10-27 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by price. In attendance were Voting members: price, kaduk, jhawk, broder, neboat, mitchb, quentin, nelhage Associate members: asedeno Prospectives: biyeun, xavid, maria89 | rishig, y_z Guests: Officer Reports: mitchb: As several of you know, once a year, MIT has to promulgate awareness of the Massachusetts anti-hazing statutes. I've signed the relevant form on behalf of SIPB, and we're required to share the statutes with all of you. I'll include a link to the relevant text in the minutes. [MGL 269:17-19 are at http://web.mit.edu/asa/rules/ma-hazing-law.html] SIPB Projects Report: nelhage: We had a hackathon on Saturday. Progress was made on several things. xavid: nelhage and I got the Debathena liveCD working. There's a copy somewhere in the office. mitchb: Actually, it's on my desk at LSC... it was very useful today - thanks! xavid: Tell me if you want some package or something that's not already there installed onto it. asedeno: Yay - SIPB-Knoppix has a successor! mitchb: I thought it was aseden~oppix. asedeno: No. price: XVM did some more work. broder: I continue to maintain that the service will launch in about two weeks. price: There was some fun with 'git show -M'. quentin: scripts is having a cluedump tomorrow, so if any prospectives are interested in working on it... also, we're thinking of having a hackathon this weekend. Preferences for which day? [Saturday wins 2-0] nelhage: auth.mit.edu came back this weekend. price: archiver? nelhage: We did some trivial work on it, like installing Debathena on the machine archiver.mit.edu. There'll be more in the future. broder: Thanks to price, we have professors using MacAthena now. price: If you advertise, you might eventually get users who aren't just our own friends. mitchb: Wait... has com_err gotten fixed? broder: No. mitchb: So, you've released it into the wild with no error messages? broder: No, *price* has released it into the wild. price: Well, I haven't really put it into the wild yet, but I may do that in the futre. mitchb: [to price] Is that a threat? [to broder] Are you being hazed? Office Report: nelhage: Laptop land is covered in... stuff... which isn't laptops. It should probably be dealt with. price: Included are a pumpkin, a chair part, headphones, highlighters, etc. quentin: I plugged Airtunes back in again because someone unplugged it. It's less useful now because you have to be on the same network as it. Other: jhawk: As you may have noticed, I've been working with Chris Murphy about the wireless, and the answers have been getting stranger and stranger. As of today, they've put a spectrum analyzer in W20 to monitor RF weirdness. Supposedly a Cisco engineer was coming up today from DC to work with him on this. Try 'MIT N' if you can, and see if it results in any difference; some people have difficulty getting their cards to not use N. mitchb: There was a Hesiod outage (it might have been more than a week ago... I forget exactly when), due to someone with too much time on their hands trying to stuff whatever characters they could get moira to accept into list names. BIND apparently doesn't do so well with '\$\$' in a list name. Other Other: '() The meeting was adjourned at 19:41. Minutes taken and submitted by mitchb.
