He has been around a lot and done a great job organizing Cluedumps. ezyang: I would like to nominate pweaver for his recent work on XVM and organizing SIPB social events. ezyang: I would like to nominate davidben for his work on barnowl SIPB Projects Report: bbaren: Mirrors now has a Gentoo Portage mirror. If you, unlike, broder, don't think source-based distros are stupid, you can point your trees to mirrors.mit.edu/gentoo-portage We are also working on a Gentoo distfiles mirror, which is more complicated. We've had some problems with the initial rsync, but I've filed a bug with Gentoo. We'll see how long it takes them to get back to me. I've heard that the mirrors is rather understaffed on their end. I've also heard they are not currently accepting official mirrors in the United States, but we'll see what happens. afarrell: IAP is sooner than you think. Talk to me if you have ideas or want to teach. I talked to anneh this morning about potentially giving credit for teaching a credit class on C++, Python, or Haskell. ezyang: [for pbaranay] To compliment the Cluedumps that we give in the fall, we would like to start up Faculty Dinners in the spring. We don't currently have anyone who is in charge of organizing this sort of event. If you are interested in organizing this sort of event, please talk to me or pbaranay. Office Report: ezyang: I move to make a $40 allocation to purchase RSnake's "Detecting Malice" ebook. RSnake is a widely known and well regarded computer security expert. As per previous discussion, the ebook would like in SIPB AFS. broder: Presumably with the other ebooks we have in /afs/sipb/contrib/doc/restricted/ Other: iannucci: As you may know, the 6.270 Lego Robotics Competition in IAP is a great way to have some fun in January and possibly walk away with some Legos. It is open to all MIT students, even grads. So, if you haven't taken it before, you should sign up. It's a lot of fun. jhawk: The deadline is...? iannucci: There is no deadline yet, but there are only 120 spaces and it is filling fast. Other Other: phurst: It was considered recently on -c sipb that there should be a simpler way to post to sipb-twitter via some sort of simple web form that checks for membership of sipb- staff or similar. If it is possible, I would like to work on that. ezyang: That sounds like a good idea; I don't really know much... broder: keithw was the one who suggested this [on -c sipb], I suspect that he is probably sufficiently hosed that it would take him a long time to get around to doing it. If you are interested, you should probably contact him. I think he had a few ideas. ezyang: It is now November. The meeting was adjourned at 19:37:45. Minutes taken and submitted by fawkes.
