Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2011-06-27 The meeting was called to order at 19:30:00 by dwilson. In attendance were Voting members: dwilson lizdenys kaduk cesium geofft mikemp Associate members: jhawk belmonte tlyu biyeun quentin | asedeno Prospectives: abelay amb Veronica Hanus Guests: Administrivia: dwilson: Welcome to the SIPB meeting. dwilson: It has been suggested that we hold our next meeting closer to the river because it is on July 4. If there are no objections, let's meet on the median of Mem Drive next to 14. quentin: Can we meet at the dot to avoid crowds? dwilson: We will have the meeting on the dot; rain location is the office. kaduk: There are a bunch of lost and found things in the office. Mail has been sent out. If it's unclaimed in the next week, it will probably go to reuse or other disposal. SIPB Project Updates: geofft: Debathena will be sending mail in the next day or so to debathena-announce@ for people to test out natty support. Send feedback to debathena@. Everything up to login-graphical has a reasonable shot of working, workstation probably does not, and you are confused if you want to include cluster. For all releases that support it, almost all we support except hardy, we have switched to dkms for building openafs modules. If this doesn't work for some reason, email debathena@. It should hit production on Wednesday night, was in -proposed on Sunday. geofft: Someone broke into one of the scripts servers today with an unreleased exploit on Fedora 13. A race condition in a setuid binary. We noticed what happened in syslogs. I did some forensics, but it looks like the attacker did nothing more than get a shell and maybe running ls before we took it down. jhawk: What was the time window? geofft: Around 3pm? jhawk: I meant how long it took before detection. quentin: Ten minutes? geofft: I think it was more like 2. quentin: It was in the single digits. jhawk: Only one of those is a single digit number. quentin: Fine, how about 9.99999... abelay: I'm sure you're all aware of Dropbox's recent security mishap. I want to make a file storage solution for the cloud that works on untrusted machines. I have a cryptographically secure object store. Talk to me if you are interested in helping. Veronica Hanus: Cluedumps planning is happening now. We already have 6 confirmed speakers, so there are approximately 7 spots left. If you are interested in giving a cluedunmp, let me know. Jump on it now if you are interested, even if you haven't worked out all of the details. Other: '() Other Other: jhawk: I want guidance on appropriate adhesives for fixing my Thinkpad's plastic. geofft: Love. jhawk: lha? tlyu: That's not how his name is pronounced. belmonte: It's very quiet here, and to a first approximation there are no people. jhawk: I'm sorry, Matthew, I couldn't hear you over the people in the hallway. mikemp: A band of nautically themed noobs got pwned if you know what I'm talking about. Don't even think about it, you'll already forget about it. More administrivia: dwilson: I filed SIPB's first year summer mailing information with the ASA. If you care about that, talk to me. The meeting was adjourned at 19:38. Minutes taken and submitted by lizdenys.
