Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2012-04-09 The meeting was called to order at 19:30:00 by bbaren. In attendance were Voting members: achernya bbaren dwilson ezyang incematt ine phurst Associate members: asedeno dlaw kaduk tlyu | jhawk Prospectives: atw bsw omalley1 Guests: Administrivia: achernya: The machine room cleaning happened on Saturday. Edward, Mitch, jhawk, Quentin, Bethany, and dwilson attended. It looks better, but not great. We have removed some of the useless ethernet cabling form underneath the floor; Quentin pulled up a huge bundle. We moved all the hidden servers onto the table. The machine that used to be senator-bedfellow was moved onto a table, as are its disks. Last Monday reynelda's decommissioned RAID was taken out of it. It didn't notice. bbaren: You're talking about the old senator-bedfellow, right? achernya: Yes. bbaren: The video and keyboard of the KVM are now actually on the table, so you can actually work on the machines. We will now have more actually available rackspace for machines. But if we do want to put machines there, we're running out of switch ports and are out of KVM ports. We also need rack blanks to promote airflow. Mitch said we can probably get a 1U blank for $5. kaduk: Is it worth filling in the gaps with cardboard? achernya: We've started doing that. bbaren: Binkley has returned to the office; anybody has any ideas is free to do it. I personally would smile upon binkley being set up and running because it's lolsy. It runs 8.5? dwilson: I believe it's 7-something. bbaren: The point is I believe there are 3 people whose UIDs are low enough to log in. SIPB Projects Report: omalley1: As part of the deal to get the Simmons server we promised a new website; that is now up and running. This weekend is a big weekend for Dormbase to get code done; we've scheduled time in the usability lab to test Dormbase in two weeks so we want code before then. This would not be a SIPB-sponsored hackathon, and it would be in Simmons. bsw: A couple weeks ago Steven Allen and I showed up to talk about mobile zephyr. I have a prototype on my phone. In a week and a half we would like an early beta; right now it just uses a static database, but the frontend is mostly done. We do have a github branch that does interact with zephyr. We would like to make it a SIPB project. bbaren: Are there resources you require from the Board? bsw: No, but we would like our own locker eventually because we'll need a setup script, etc. jhawk: What's the architecture? bsw: There's a mobile frontend, and a backend that runs in the same screen session you run barnowl in and stores your zephyrs in a sqlite database. jhawk: So users run their own backend. bsw: Yes. Office Report: asedeno: The office is a pit. jhawk: I would like $50 for miscellaneous structured containers to contain cables. quentin: Second, white ballot. Friendly amendment to $100. jhawk: Whatever. bbaren: Do you accept? jhawk: That's what whatever means. [Motion passes.] Other: jhawk: Has anyone noticed problems with MIT Wireless on MacBook Pros and roaming and resuming from sleep? I've noticed this with a few other data points. dlaw: I've had roaming trouble on non-MBPs. jhawk: Network has said that there have been no relevant changes. tlyu, phurst: No. Other Other: asedeno: PAX East and Anime Boston happened this past weekend. Passover started, as did Easter. achernya: There are interesting relics in the machine room that we discovered. quentin: Are you thinking of the dual-height 5-1/4" hard drive? achernya: Yes. Do we *want* an 84 megabyte hard drive? phurst: How many? achernya: 84. phurst: What a weird number. The meeting was adjourned at 19:42:20. Minutes taken and submitted by phurst.
