Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2013-03-04


The meeting was called to order at 19:31:10 by achernya.

	glasgall: Comrades! The tyranny of the Office Czar has been
		overthrown and its power restored to the people of the
		Board!

		Comrades! The Chairman of the Central Committee of the
		People's Revolutionary Information Processing Board
		has appointed me People's Commissar for the Office! I
		will maintain the office for the glory of the
		People. Offenders against the office will be met with
		revolutionary justice!  

		All glory to the Revolution! All glory to the Board!

	glasgall: This is a revolutionary process.

	bbaren: Does anybody want this? (pulls out phone from drawer)
	jdreed: Does it have a serial port?
	bbaren: Yes.
	jhawk: IS&T asks that they not be given away but returned
		instead. They all have serial ports, but only some
		have serial APIs.
	bbaren: Would IS&T like this back?
	jdreed: Send mail to 3help and ask.

	bbaren: I have the old office clock. Does anybody have any
		thoughts as to what we should do with it?
	jhawk: Office clock rhymes with... office rock!
	cereslee: Retire it with thermite.
	several: Put it on reuse or throw it out.
	bbaren: It's going on reuse.
	dove: Is the office rock that credit card reader thing?
	jhawk: [climbing] No, it's just difficult to get to.
	jhawk: [smashes clock] Office clock has been office rocked.

	glasgall: I'm bringing this up again for the second time in
		three weeks. There's this box labeled "office
		ecommerce". I propose to get rid of everything in it
		except the modem.

	achernya: The SQL project asks to allocate $120 for four SSD
		adapters to put the SSDs into the hot swap bays.

SIPB Projects Report:
	dove: Phil Lapsley gave a talk at Sloan. We sort of sponsored
		this. It was really cool. He did not bring the books
		he was going to donate, but will mail them. Also, this
		Thursday at 1pm Gerrit Hall, one of the MIT 100k
		competition organizers, will be in the office to talk
		to us. Anyone is welcome to be there, but achernya is
		obligated to. They're interested in making the
		competition more hacky and want our help with that.

	tboning: Dormbase had a hackathon on Saturday. Some stuff got
		done. Some features got implemented. There was an
		email sent, if you're interested in helping Dormbase
		with anything you should reply to it.
	achernya: The hackathon went over the standing allocation. I
		move to retroactively allocate an additional $25.
	dwilson: Second and white ballot.
	[White ballot passes]

	cereslee: We squashed the Scripts queue on Friday from forty
		tickets.
	glasgall: It was really impressive. I've never seen so many
		tickets murderated so quickly.

	codetaku: CPW is next month. If you're interested in helping
		run the Python Bee, you should talk to jhurwitz. He's
		working on targeting it toward new programmers. Anyone
		who volunteered to be on the Everything You Wanted to
		Know About Computers But Never Asked panel should
		start thinking of things to talk about, because doing
		that the week before would be bad.
	achernya: Do you want a list of topics and suggested questions?
	codetaku: Sure. I don't need a list right now, I'll start
		polling for specifics soon, but for right now it's
		important that people start thinking about it.
	jdreed: Do we have a moderator?
	codetaku: Yes, Luke O'Malley.

Other:
	glasgall: Ubuntu may be moving to a rolling release
		schedule. This would directly affect at least one SIPB
		project.

	afarrell: Do we have Mac to VGA or Mac to DVI adapters?
	achernya: Several. I found one. They definitely exist.
	afarrell: I apologize for my lack of eyes.

Other Other:
	dwilson: BU is hosting a Boston Freedom in Onine Communication
		day this Friday. They have a number of speakers for
		various security, freedom of information, and those
		sorts of topics. It looks potentially of interest to
		SIPB types. It's free but registration is required. You
		can look at the BU website for more details.
	cereslee: Add date is this Friday.
	jhawk: If you want to drop with no record, drop before add
		date.
	achernya: Similarly, if you're in 6.UAP your proposal is due
		Friday.
	phurst: My birthday is tomorrow.
	office: Yaaaaaaay.
