NOTE: These are DRAFT minutes until this note is removed. ========================================================= Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2013-11-04 The meeting was called to order at 7:30:00 by dove. In attendance were Voting members: belzner dvorak42 dwilson lapentab phurst k_sunter sqshemet vasilvv | tboning codetaku cereslee Associate members: achernya glasgall jbarnold kaduk quentin Prospectives: dzafaen Administrivia: dvorak42: I'd like to allocate $200 for 2 1TB HDDs for SIPB CTF, to use with some of the Sloan machines that lack hard drives. achernya: We're going to try to negotiate with Dell to get drives and sleds. As long as we negotiate it should be doable. phurst: Overallocate? achernya: There's 10% leeway and drives are expected to be $90. [Second and white ballot] Project Reports: achernya: SIPB IAP. I talked to anneh about 6.828 and SIPB course numbers. We're getting 6.001's old course number, 6.s184. Going to get room alocated. Still need full information and access to course staff scripts. You should either join or help with the class. glasgall: Had SIPB storytime. It went shockingly well. People besides me and Alex showed up and told stories. kaduk: SIPB AFS, up until 2-3 weeks ago nightly releases of SIPB locker were not happening. Copying to cell, but not doing the release to SIPB cell. Transitioning to rsync had to append a / to the source path. Apparently we were determinig which volume to release from string merging. glasgall: Is it just easier to package syunctree? kaduk: No. Wans't reading script carefully, actual release had all error-checking redirected to /dev/null achernya: SQL. Went and wrote a script that calculates quotas. It's an improvement over previous system that calculated quotas when web interface. Also fixed bug in which primary-key couldn't do ACL's. I think that's my fault. I actually ran it with nohup and it seems to be working 24 hours late. davidben worked on management database page, it works but is missing error checking. vasilvv: SIPB isilon finially got four new nodes, total capacity 40TB. It also got new switches which are not deployed. dove: Remind people what type of box opener was used? vasilvv: The box-cutter took his car keyes out of his pocket and cut the tape. dove: We hae not verified the certification of certified senior box opener. k_sunter: Another cluedump on Wednesday. jdreed on Debathena under the hood. We also have these posters. If you would like a poster to put on a board, come see me. We're out of Cluedumps. We need more poeple. I'm looking at you, XVM team. dove: There should be an AFS culedump. achernya: We need to get like me, Peter, davidben, and various other people in a room. vasilvv: For unknown reasons, some of the mirrors got sad this weekend. It's not related to SIPB as far as I'm aware. We discovere that the Ubuntu archive mirroring job was not finishing fully for at least half the month. tboning: On Halloween there was an unplanned network outage for approximately west campus. w92-router-1 decided to die. This caused a lot of dorms to have no internet for about an hour. dove: There were issues connecting from off-campus as well. dwilson: During the outage, I called the SIPB office and was not able to get thorugh because VOIP. dove: There's a phone for that. dwilson: I don't know that phone number. dvorak42: I didn't notice nagios alerts at the time! quentin: It would be nice if we took the oppurtunity to talk about out of band management. dove: I know what we should do. We should allocate some money for space in W90-mumble. achernya: You realize we have 4 racks in W90-mumble. We have the same privelages taht paid customers do. achernya: I talked to anneh. She asked me to pass on a message that she is looking for people to teach C, C++, logic, and animation. I don't rmember what type of logic. It wsn't boolean. Other: glasgall: I temporarily borrowed a sunblade and stuck it in the office. I ended up building OpenIndiana for SPARC. I didn't really want to do this, but your only other option for this is a terrible piece of software that I've been referring to as crazy Germanix. I think the world needs an alternative. If I'm lucky I'll lose interest before I finish it. kaduk: The 88th meeting of the internet engineering task force is going on now. glasgall: oauth 3 that sucks less that oauth2? kaduk: They're still working on oauth2? Other Other: codetaku: The Red Sox won the world series and MIT didn't burn to the ground! glasgall: Tomorrow is election day in the towns in the area. sqshemet: The Ender's Game movie came out. dove: Some of us saw Ender's Game. It was good despite being in the back. Also there was a really cool display in Lobby 7 and Killian Court. A hack, with a battleroom scene. dzaefen: Subsequently a really great thread on ec-discuss. dove: Relatedly, there's now this list called sipb-ec-discuss. I did not make it. You might be able to blame me. codetaku: It's indirectly Steven's fault. The meeting was adjourned at 7:44. Minutes taken and submitted by sqshemet.
