Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2014-05-05 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by dove. In attendance were Voting members: codetaku dove iannucci k_sunter phurst vasilvv Associate members: achernya kcr sparrow_ wings Prospectives: dzaefn jrafidi sadun vahle Guests: Administrivia: craigj: We have a recycling program as outlined in my e-mail to you all, just a casual observation with respect to the equipment you have, there's a revenue opportunity. We run a program where we take a look at your equipment and give you a cash-back price. k_sunter: Here's the revised mural design; if you have thoughts about it, come talk to me about it. achernya: Are we actually going to be able to get it in color? k_sunter: Yeah. vasilvv: Earlier today jhawk asked me to allocate $30 for something something experimental staplers; he said one or two of them. It sounded like he knew what he was talking about. dove: Sounds like experimental office supplies. achernya: I think the motion is unnecessary. dove: I'm going to set a precedent here; this is an experimental office supply. dove: The IS&T dinner is tomorrow night at Royal East at 6pm; if you want to talk to IS&T people, come talk to me. John Charles, the head of IS&T, as well as jis and zacheiss will be there. dove: Move to allocate $100 for a second SIPB fun night next week or so doing an Artemis night, which is a co-op space flight exploration mumble. We'd order a bunch of pizza. The game doesn't have to be Artemis. phurst: $7, apparently. iannucci: Sounds like you want to increase the allocation to $107. [Motion white balloted.] achernya: It's May; the fiscal year is ending, and we have thousands of dollars that will go away unless we spend them. phurst: Allocate to buy a copy of Diablo 3 for every SIPB member. iannucci: We should have SIPB compensate the grad students who got screwed on the undergrad-only bitcoin giveaway. vasilvv: Let's allocate for a SIPB private jet. dove: A Boeing 747? iannucci: A bikeshed with wings. achernya: Some ideas include upgrading MKC; another machine with a high-DPI monitor, a kick-ass graphics card. vahle: Also, I need to get reimbursed for $300 for Cokecomm. achernya: Cokecomm is a separate enterprise. vahle: Here's the problem: there are huge balances on the accounts. achernya: I think dwilson owes you money. dove: I think Cokecomm isn't in the red, but if there's not $1000 waiting to be paid out, Cokecomm is in trouble, because we shouldn't have members be hundreds of dollars in debt. I think priority goes to balancing the Cokecomm budget. achernya: Sure, but we need to talk to dwilson. dove: How many Aerons could we buy? achernya: 4, maybe. SIPB Projects Report: achernya: I finally accomplished something I set out to do since I was a frosh: a web-based Git hosting service on Scripts, which I called mithub; currently at mithub.scripts.mit.edu, soon to be mithub.mit.edu iannucci: What does this help us accomplish? achernya: Private repos; it doesn't yet have forking or organizations, because the Go-based project it's based on is super new, but if you're interested in working on it, talk to me. kcr: What kind of velocity does the upstream project have? achernya: Version counter incremented in the last week. dove: Right now all the content is in an AFS locker; is it going to be disk-intensive? achernya: Right now it's using an 8GB AFS cell volume; a pony is to make the repos be hosted out of users' lockers. jtbarker: Still working on the new version of Roost; it's getting there. You've got two panes, etc. iannucci: Did we ever figure out what happened to the third Mac charger? dove: We didn't. achernya: One of the prospectives borrowed it. I'll ask them to return it sometime soon. iannucci: On the SIPB world domination project report, Nickolai Zeldovich has just received tenure as a professor at MIT. We're like one of those cabal things that doesn't exist. [A round of applause.] iannucci: There was a suggestion we should register him profroot.org as a tenure present. phurst: How long do we want to reserve it for? iannucci: A year. phurst: Motion to allocate $20. [Motion passes.] achernya: I'll order it. New Prospective Introductions: '() Other: Other Other: iannucci: Horrible allergens in the atmosphere are attacking our immune systems. kcr: You mean the trees are getting frisky? iannucci: I hear the FDA is close to approving various oral allergy therapies. iannucci: I did the Leeroy Jenkins approach to moving data volumes between XVM's RAIDs; it's not clear whether we can do this on prod, but the plan is to migrate user VMs off all the bad RAID and update its firmware, and then we'll have more space. dove: Any idea when? iannucci: Because it ends with us scrubbing the entire old raid, we're looking at a week to two weeks if nothing goes wrong. Hopefully within the next month. achernya: I bought the domain; I was considering setting it to point to a redirect to his CSAIL page. iannucci: In case you were feeling nostalgic on seeing the Goomba over the door, there was an HN article today. People have long known about a glitch level "-1" in Super Mario Brothers. Someone has gone and patched the rom and explored other nonexistent levels; it's a cool article.
