Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2018-02-19 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by alvareza. In attendance were Student keyholders: cela, dukhovni, mcyoung, emmabat, ikdc, slz, alvareza, mtheng Associate keyholders: lucyyang Members: wmoses, uokwo | amigdal, rsthomp Guests: '() Administrivia: mcyoung: Welcome to the SIPB meeting! [alvareza takes gavel, takes out outer shirt to reveal mcyoung's red sweater] alvareza: Is there anything for administrivia? I have something for administrivia! alvareza: The SIPB election of the executive committee happened last week. [results of the SIPB election, see last week's minutes] mcyoung: Me, Victor and Angel met with Mark Silis and Garry Zacheiss. IS&T after much discussion, have decided that they will NOT be NAT'ing dorms and labs. mcyoung: Students and labs do get NAT opt-in if they want private addresses. If this is an option, it should be freely available. mcyoung: I also politely asked for admin bits for the SMR, which means that we don't need to email accounts@. mcyoung: Another thing -- we've got a new domain. Soon our website will be on sipb.mit. mcyoung: MIT has a /24 of IPv6. slz: That's more than the number of picoseconds... mcyoung: There is no possible way that we will ever run out of them. mcyoung: IS&T said that we can have some now if we really want them, but they would be a pain to manage. mcyoung: I asked Mark when we can have an official announcement about NAT. He told me that it will be dropping sometime early March, so we can look forward to that. mcyoung: This announcement is my last action as SIPB chair, so I'll leave the floor to Angel. slz: Can I make a recommendation about how SIPB can streamline the membership process better? I think it'd be great if SIPB could establish some formal mentorship between members and keyholders. I think this will also contribute to SIPB's social cohesiveness. emmabat: I think we should set aside some time to discuss this. alvareza: Another thing to talk about in our next EC meeting. Project Reports: cela: We got a hackathon for Hyades on Saturday. We're down to one issue to resolve for DC6, which is very nice because it's been 6 months. dukhovni: In Mastodon v2.2, the timeline regenerating bug has been fixed. rsthomp: I've been looking at stalled projects on SIPB and getting them to a state where members and prospectives can easily get started on them. slz: Mirrors has been stuck. If you'd like to do a great service to open source, come talk to me. slz: Also if you have feelings about Debathena, please come talk to me. Also note that I'm the last student for Debathena, and I'm graduating in June, so this should be fixed. alvareza: CPW is sooner than you think! We currently have Lef, but it takes more than one to organize a CPW, so if you're interested in CPW come talk to me. Other: mcyoung: So most modern laptops have accelerometers, but I can't find any way to get to it. slz: I dropped a small Torx 5 screw in front of MKC. If you see it please tell me because I'm very sad. It's between MKC and laptopland. cela: A set of documents from 1995 was dropped in front of my door, and they contain interesting facts about SIPB. cela: I heard a story, not verified, about Facebook using your 2FA number to send [stuff], and if you text back "stop", they put it on your wall. dukhovni: [news about Facebook phone spam bug] mcyoung: Update: This machine does not have an accelerometer. This is dumb. dukhovni: There's a VPN that routes all your traffic through Facebook's server. lucyyang: Do you want a SIPB t-shirt? Cos there are still some here and I'm still in debt. cela: To my endless annoyance, apparently 7 cards costs $25 even though it's a tiny card with a chip in it. cela: That's why SIPB needs to go into the telecom business! mcyoung: I thought SIPB was already going into the telecom business. ikdc: We should build a phone line across campus. Other Other: cela: Someone bought us a whole bunch of Cheetos for the office, please eat them so I won't eat them. cela: Just because I like Cheetos doesn't mean that I'm endorsing them as technical advisor. slz: Chinese New Year happened. It is now... a new year. The meeting was adjourned at 19:59. Minutes taken and submitted by mtheng.
