Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-03-11


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat.

        emmabat: Welcome to the SIPB meeting, it is time for administrivia? I think it would be cool to have things that can be reconstituted in hot water? Tea, coffee, hot chocolate...

        emmabat: [Motion to allocate $50 for non perishable office food items, motion passes, white ballot]
        
        emmabat: we should have a food mob for next week, to help get new people to come to this one, I want to subsidize this food mob for newcomers.
        
        emmabat: [motion to allocate $200 for food mob new comers next week, motion passes, white ballot]. We can go early, walk to mary's and drag our friends to the SIPB meeting. Feel free to member the new friends.

Project Reports:

        cela: work on hyades continues, we just merged the changes so we don't have to use the weird esoteric , scripts meetings are happening, at 10pm on mondays. If you are interested in helping, please come.
        
        gshay: Courseroad is getting there, we will have a demo next week. 
        
        cela: If you are wondering about hwops emails, don't worry I am still working on them.
        
        vickiew: I will send out a spreadsheet for people who might want to bring games.

Other:

        wmoses: There was a bitcoin on campus with QR codes, if you got 10 QR codes then you got the key to the bitcoin. It was an experiement that will be scaled.
        
        dzaefn: Actually, it will be 1 million dollars of bitcoin, also albert einstien's birthday is sooner than you think.
        
        npfoss: There was a bug in zcash.
        
        wqian94: do airplanes count as other?

        wqian94: There was an ethopian plane crash on sunday, it prompted boeing to retire that line of aircraft. Daylight losing is sooner than you think.

        cela: Apparently they added a new undocumented feature, where they changed the shape of the aircraft and make the software try to compensate without informing pilots.
        
        emmabat: moral of the story: documentation saves lives. 
        
        wqian94: tau half day is sooner than you think.
        
        cela: There were a bunch of github repos that made malicious copies of actual github repos with malware in it, in particular, your computer could be hijacked and used to bid on sneakers.
        
        wqian94: our lab started working with a rubis benchmark, that is based on ebay bidding. At least ebay has it's own benchmark. 
        
        cela: the NSA released their reverse engineering toolkit. It is a binary package, designed to be used by security professionals working on reverse engineering.
        
        vickiew: you know how gmail has a 15gb storage? Well, I didn't get any emails because my gmail was full.
        
        emmabat: the emails keep breaking...
        
        mnguyen: the new solution is that it deconstructs and reconstructs everything that goes through it.
        
        wqian94: my friend made a website that checked for harvard emails. I added my email and a semicolon to it with a random harvard address. I got the confirmation email.
