[motion to allocate $50 for a new electric kettle: the motion passes, white ballot] emmabat: the hot water is gone vasilvv: we should ask the CAC for it back wmoses: organizing the sipbith-- 50th anniversary, we asked joi ito for some help, we are looking for more help with the 50th. If you have ideas/event ideas to help emmabat: From the last SIPB EC meeting, we have appointed two new positions: Soc-comm (or whatever you want it to be called), this will be someone who wants to be responsible for ensuring that more sipb social events. You don't have to organize all the social events, you just need to make sure that someone is coordinating it. Come talk to me if you are interested in the position. The other unoffical position we are adding is an external relations person. The SIPB chair goes to alot of meetings. We should be going to even more meetings with more people. we should talk to dormcon, the UA, etc. Other students care about the effects of computing related issues, to get more people outside of the SIPB community to be involved in computing. In particular, we are hoping to establish working relationships with these groups so we can ensure that ISTAC, when it is created, is successful. Let me know if you are interested in this. Also, next semester, we would like to classify projects on the basis of being actively maintained by students. This will be helpful for the SIPB EC can maintain an account of who is responsible for a project. A project is actively maintained if and only if you either give a project report during the first meeting of a month, or come talk to the chair/vice chair afterward. If you are listed as the point person on a project, you should make sure someone, not necesarily yourself, goes to a meeting with some frequency. vasilvv: Does the EC have a list of all the projects? emmabat: We have a list, but it's not complete. vasilvv: well that is an improvement Project Reports: slz: I went to a student forum for one of the working groups for the college of computing. They were trying to identify current problems for the college instead of looking for solutions of existing problems. They are looking into solutions for compute and storage. I said that we are working on something that could contribute on this front, they seemed intrigued by the concept of having cheap student labor. I think this is more than something just at MIT. MIT is part of a consortium that has some supercomputing resources in massachusets. people agree that IT at MIT is really inefficient and decentralized, this may imply more resources/requirements on IS&T. I will be sending an email to an interested faculty starting a conversation between SIPB, and people working on the CoC. Hopefully we will be in a place where we can help influence decisions around IT for that. slz: the other note is mirrors. I replaced the mirrors host, it no longer running on the old spark machine. It also now supports https. If you have web design abilities, you should let me know, we should update it's website. If you can ls and cd, talk to me. emmabat: We have a bunch of people who know web, but don't want to. ikdc: I tried to improve Cel's website, but I made it look worse, so I gave up. cela: sipb-hwops website actually does something. It has logs now, so we don't have to worry about restricting permissions. hopefully we will have a hardware detection party, where we will test the servers in the pile of servers and figure out whats in them. cela: scripts is happening. we meet every monday, you should come. cela: hyades, this is the 2nd anniversary of the first commit for hyades. hyades continues. ikdc: we reracked the machine that we racked wrong 2 times already, but now it is finished. [discussion of SIPB weighlifting for servers ] Other: slz: fedora 30 has been released emmabat: the athena lounge opened, it has 4 computers in it. emmabat: they got rid of our bulletin board, we saved the stuff on it. slz: linux 5.1 has been released cela: firefox had an event called armeg-addon, all the addons were broken. emmabat: arent ads so effective online? everyone: @google? Other Other: jkoppel: I looked at open AI's software "we offer a generous set of credit and loan opportunties to boost the career prospects of MIT students" belmonte: Hi, Im belmonte, I am as old as SIPB, A lot has changed, the athena cluster used to have computers, the fridge used to have sodas. cela: If someone wants to setup ansible scripts to maintain the state of the office heads, we would be greatful. emmabat: yes you may use our stapler, the musical. xela: I'm xela stevengo: Hi, I am steve, I am making a documentary about SIPB, i have the equipment for a bit longer, so let me know. alvareza: hell week is sooner than you think.
