Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-09-09 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat. [spiel about SIPB and how to get membered] emmabat: Typically this week is the week we have the beginning food mob, but this is the week of tuesdays, so we will have a Mary's food mob next week. If you want to come to that, plan on not having dinner until that. Also, we are starting up a mentorship program, we may have a study break mixer, [poll, when would be a good time for the mixer?: tues - 9, wednesday - 14, thursday - 16] gshay: the eecs job fair is thursday, emmabat: Okay, I'll just send out a when2meet to schedule this. emmabat: As you may or may not know, we were originally planning to have the event in the media lab, however, in light of recent events, we will be moving to the R&D commons. This means that we will have to replan some of the logisitics like catering and scheduling. wmoses: you should all give a talk. wmoses: I would like to propose an allocation for $2000 to cover the cost of the space for the SIPB 50. [enter vote discussion] twang6: So the cost is 1.6k, wmoses: we want an extra 400 for the CAC, since setup and breakdown will cost us. jkoppel: is there a specified concern about the media lab other than generally? wmoses: we can talk offline. zackpi: some alumni wanted to donate to sipb, can they still do that? emmabat: yes, [explanation of the SIPB cost objects]. bpchen: for the new people, what is a cost object emmabat: it is like a bank account, but a little bit wierd. alvareza: also, we will be reaching out to IS&T to see if we can get help on budgeting. Project Reports: wmoses: the sipb WISP equipment has been moved to the SMR. emmabat: thanks to Ben for helping with moving cela: SIPB hwops: We found the missing KVM, it was in the SAO office, they forgot to tell us about it. cela: Hyades continues! cela: Some point in the semester, I want to start a new project, called uplink so that existing groups can turn their mailing lists into impromptu mattermost instances. If you are interested in helping with this, you should come talk to me. cela: scripts has alot of tickets coming in, since it is the start of the semester. emmabat: Scripts may be one of our most over-utilized services. If you want to feel like your work is important, you can join scripts! npfoss: There is a sipb project called courseroad, it is a planning tool for your time at MIT, I'm not taking questions from him (points to wqian94), but if you have questions, please let me know. npfoss: If you have a bug report, DONT PUT IT IN MIT CONFESSIONS! Other: wqian94: over the summer, I played with AWS lambda, I was able to run a relatively complicated stack, it would be cool to be able to do this here at MIT, so people wont have to worry about infra. npfoss: this summer I built a decentralized social network.
