Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-10-14 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by cela. In attendance were Student keyholders: bds, gshay, wmoses, yczeng, cela, mwnguyen | alvareza, emmabat Associate keyholders: asuhl, bbaren Members:, jkoppel, stevengo, mrittenb, joshuaw, emilyfan, tjz Guests: ahedberg, maxj Administrivia: cela: Welcome to the SIPB meeting. Our noble Chair is a few miles away, so we’re getting started without them. Anything for administrivia? emmabat: One thing for administrivia, we were going to have a advising study break this week. It looks like people are free tomorrow at 7 or saturday at 3pm? Which one is better? cela: saturday seems better since there is more notice. emmabat: alright we will do it saturday then. We should make an allocation for $50 [motion to white ballot, motion passes] cela: today is indigenous peoples day. Project Reports: cela: courseroad continuse. We met with FireRoad and we’re working on petitions as well as unit testing and Miriam recently wrote a cool part of our program that autosets the user’s year to the correct year, so they don’t login and be, like, “Why am I a froshling?” Anything else for project reports? I started working on the printing app so you can print to Pharos from your phone. It works by connecting to an XVM server and then using that to connect to Athena and then printing from there. I couldn’t get printing to work from XVM. That might be something to do in the future. For now, it just routes through Athena. It works decently. Anything else? I have things! Scripts project continues. Tuesday, 9 pm, here, Scripts. Hyades continues. We finally have access-control code written that works. Uplink met again yesterday. Uplink is trying to happen. We’ll meet next week at 4 pm on Sunday. bds: SIPB-WISP met last week. We essentially just unboxed all the Ubiquiti equipment and set up usernames and passwords. The equipment communicates with each other. We have a to do list for the future. We’ll meet at the same time next week. 5 pm on Thursday, which ended up lasting until 7 or 7:30. It’s on the SIPB calendar. Anything else? Other: zackpi: What’s the black box on the window? bbaren: It’s a wave guide. It's been there forever. [Story] cela: Should we stall? jkoppel: There will be a cluedump at Wednesday, November 6, at 7:30. npfoss will present on the InterPlanetary File System. maxj: duxovni and I moved Mastodon from a sad VM to a very happy physical machine with 96 GB of RAM. mastodon.mit.edu is infinitely more usable now. If the performance is what was keeping you from signing up, it’s pretty speedy now. Anything else for other? Other Other: I’ve been too lazy to print my bio psets, so I’ve been doing them in GIMP. So then I did them in LibreOffice Writer, which turns out it stores the history. I opened the files and there were a bunch of white boxes over the diagrams, and it turns out if you delete them, there were all the answers. [emmabat seizes power.] Also, if you open the PDFs in LibreOffice Writer, wmoses: halloween is sooner than you think. cela: there is a security vulnerability in sudo [shocks from across the room] maxj: do you know if default debian is affected? bbaren: checking... debian is not affected as of recently. mwnguyen: idea-instructions.com, it is a website that explains stuff like algorithms or cryptography in the form of ikea diagrams. The meeting was adjourned at 19:45. Minutes taken and submitted by alvareza.
