Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-11-11


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat.

In attendance were

Administrivia:

        emmabat: welcome to the SIPB meeting!
        
        bbaren: Hi everyone, on saturday, what day is thanksgiving?
        
        quentin: it 
        
        bbaren: on satuday, nov. 30th there will be a SIPB non laptop land cleaning party. I would like to allocate $100 for people to have food during the SIPB cleaning party hackathon.
        
        emmabat: [motion to allocate $100, seconded and white ballot, the motion passes.]
        
        mcyoung: don't you have to second the whiteballot?
        
        emmabat: NO, I'm the chair, the constitution doesn't say anything about 
        
        bbaren: Great! I will see ALL of you there, right???
        
        yczeng: I will bring a bunch of office snacks soon.
        
        emmabat: I setup these devices [oscilliscope, function generator, power supply], we should try to get some actual probes for these devices.
        
        bbaren: will this equipment be a permanent fixture of the office?
        
        emmabat: probably. [motion to allocate $50 for various probes, seconded and white ballot]
        
        mcyoung: I would like to get a copy of the SRE book, can we allocate for it? [motion to allocate $35 for an office copy of the SRE book, seconded, white ballot, the motion passes]
        
        tjz: what is SRE?
        
        mcyoung: It is site reliability engineering.
        
        emmabat: Angel and I have a meeting with Mark Silis, I also have concrete confirmtation that the revival of ISTAB (as ISTAC) will be happening next semester , I am also planning to go to the UA meeting to get some more structured student representation on the committee.

Project Reports:

        tjz: MITprint is available on Google play, you can print to pharos printers, it is not 100% done, so I would like help , if you are interested, contact me.
        
        cela: work on scripts continues, I don't have as much time for this, meetings every tuesday at 9pm, SIPB uplink continues, In practice this has become learn about computing topics
        
        jkoppel: a cluedump happened this wednesday, 21 people attended 1/3 of which SIPB people.
        
        jkoppel: the next cluedump is scheduled, thursday dec 5th, location TBD.
        
        bds: SIPBWISP meet last week. 
        
Other:

        mcyoung: the project I work on at work has been been released!
        
        cela: I learned the hard way to have your computer crash and corrupt your LVM pool.
        
        bds: There was a sipb game night last friday, turn out wasn't as good, so we will do it on saturdays.
        
        ivanaf: the deadline to signup for SIPBIAP is soon!
        
        cela: If anyone has resources on RTOS design, please send them my way.
        
        yczeng: python is built using a version of C that is 20 years old, is this true?
        
        mcyoung: that's on brand.
        
        quentin: C99 is pretty modern.
        
        mcyoung: [C++] I am never going to write anything lower than 17 again.

        emmabat: an institute holiday is sooner than you think.
        
        emmabat: also was also a fire in bldg 13.
        
        cela: drop date is sooner than you think.
