Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2020-03-30 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by wmoses. In attendance were Student keyholders: wmoses, mrittenb, bds, mwnguyen, alvareza, emmabat, cela, gshay, npfoss, aathalye Associate keyholders: mcyoung, quentin, merolish, kenta, nchinda2 Members: kyeb, dbopp Guests: '() Administrivia: wmoses: We now have a Minecraft version of the SIPB office. If you want to join, join the minecraft server at froyo-machine and the sipb-minecraft list and the Discord. [wmoses shows everyone the minecraft SIPB office on his screen] Project Reports: emmabat: SIPB is making Discord bots for admin to verify 2024s. wmoses: If people want to extend that to a bot that lets you query a general moira list, that might be useful. mcyoung: There is a python moira, right? emmabat: We are using a SQL database. I barely know what moira is. dbopp: CPW! Admin has been making announcements. Virtual CPW may be integrated with Minecraft. ASA will try to do a virtual activities midway. dbopp: You can register virtual events soon. Put event ideas in the chat if you have any. CPW is now the whole week leading up to the weekend. emmabat: We can virtualize board game nights. wmoses: Cluedumps - both live and prerecorded? dbopp: Jackbox, cluedumps. emmabat: Aren't Billy and I going to do our legendary quantum computing CPW cluedump? No planning, we just talk about quantum computing. wmoses: We could make the project fair a CPW event? dbopp: How would I reach out to peeople doing projects, Mattermost? wmoses: Mattermost, ask the vice chair. etc. emmabat: The main contact for each project should be in the list of projects. I can send you the link. wmoses: WISP continues. We have a database for passwords. wmoses: Does Hyades continue? alvareza: No. emmabat: The world has truly ended. mcyoung: I can fill the hole in my heart with gauze. cela: Uplink also doesn't continue. npfoss: CourseRoad also doesn't continue. mrittenb: No, Georgia did some stuff. npfoss: Ok, Georgia continues. Other: wmoses: Classes were sooner than you thought. emmabat: No one got Zoom bombed, hopefully. gshay: They sent out an email, so most people had passwords. emmabat: It's happening - my friend's parents are high school teachers and it happened to them. Hence the email from Mark Siles. Use a password on your Zoom meeting so people don't display themselves on your Zoom class. wmoses: Hopefully the SIPB meeting doesn't get Zoom bombed. Other Other: alavareza; Cinammon rolls! wmoses: I'm still expecting them. wmoses: My former dorm is doing Zoom pizza nights where they mail people pizza. wmoses: We had a game night on Thursday. We had fun doing crossword puzzles. quentin: There was supposed to be another one on Friday, but only two peole showed up. gshay: I was confused by there being two. I thought I got time wrong and there was only one Thursday. quentin: Just me and Ben. wmoses: Hopefully crosswords were fun. wmoses: Nate, as social chair do you want to organize a game night? emmabat: Let's not use chair to refer to non chair or vice chair people. wmoses: Social czar, then. quentin: There was also a movie night. npfoss: Maybe the next game night will be exploring the Minecraft MIT - I haven't been on it yet. emmabat: In Minecraft, it's never been easier to get on the great dome! npfoss: I'll make a poll in Mattermost, and then send an email about the time. wmoses: CC sipb-office and sipb-minecraft. npfoss: There's a sipb-minecraft list? wmoses: It's the list for discussing our minecraft server. npfoss: I'm adding myself now. kenta: Isn't trolling a thing you need to worry about in minecraft? wmoses: You need to be made a builder by me or one other person to make edits. We have backups on the same computer, and are working on getting backups to different computers. npfoss: I was looking for a proximity aware voice bot for minecraft, does the server have that? wmoses: I don't know about voice bots. Message Discord and the minecraft list. npfoss: I have done this before, there are several options. wmoses: We can install any plugins that don't take space or CPU. npfoss: Quite the restriction. cela: Satellite internet sucks. wmoses: True. Did you get a hotspot? cela: We got 25GB per month phones. I'm going to hit the limit. bds: That's supposed to be enough? quentin: For non-Zoom stuff maybe, but... cela: One of my classes took 5% of my monthly limit. wmoses: Hopefully it's unlimited at a reasonable rate after 25GB? cela: I don't know the plan. kenta: For those running Zoom on desktop, you have to put untrusted software on your computer. No source. wmoses: I think they used to be able to monitor what apps are open on your computer. kenta: Zoom has problems that none of you have worked around? npfoss; My workaround is just using it from my browser. kjchen: I can't get the browser version to work. emmabat: Me neither. npfoss: It took me multiple tries on different browsers before I got it to work. kenta: Who has gotten it to work? emmabat: Angel might have gotten it to work. bds: It works for me on Fedora 30. npfoss: Works for me on Firefox and Brave on Ubuntu 19. emmabat: When I tried to run it in the browser, nothing would happen. kenta: I'll keep investigating, it's good to know some people got it to work. mcyoung: You could try spoofing your user agent, that's hot right now. kenta: Can we get into W20? emmabat: No. wmoses: We haven't heard back. kenta: But you are still working on it. mcyoung: We are running a mission critical service, froyo-machine. wmoses: Worst case scenario I'll redirect it to my CSAIL machine and use afs backups. emmabat: They are pretty serious about locking down campus. It will be hard to get access until an emergency. mrittenb: Administrivia question I forgot to ask: should I put the text chat in the minutes? wmoses: I think it's worth keeping. emmabat: Maybe just save it and put it in a separate group chat section. cela: Question about the meeting structure: It's hard to handle race conditions. Is there a reason we aren't using the raise hand setting? wmoses: We tried that earlier. I was screen sharing this meeting so I couldn't see raised hands. We can go back to using that, though. kjchen: The raise hands setting is clunky on mobile. wmoses: You can also write in the chat. wmoses: I can't see all of the reactions. emmabat: Zoom, good job at having the same interface across platforms. npfoss: The ethernet waiting for a timeout strategy works fine. mcyoung: Or we could scream into our microphones. emmabat: What is happening? [quentin has become a rotating cube] mcyoung: Quentin is in the fourth dimension. Group Chat: kyeb: can you at least send the recipe??? [during discussion of cinnamon rolls] dbopp: was there an email for the friday one? [during discussion of game nights] alvareza: look up sally's baking addiction "Big GIant Cinnamon Rolls" [reply to kyeb's message about cinnamon rolls] mau: That sounds fun! [probably also about cinnamon rolls] kyeb: https://github.com/arkadiyt/zoom-redirector [during discussion of using Zoom on your browser] npfoss: "re-ZOOM" [probably also about using Zoom on your browser] The meeting was adjourned at 19:58. Minutes taken and submitted by mrittenb.
