Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2022-03-07 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by jmvidal. In attendance were Student keyholders: bds, cela, cjq, gshay, huydai, jeffery, jmvidal, jnwagner, mitimmy Associate keyholders: amigdal, petey Members: agrebe, ashay, cbsu, markchil, toomas Guests: '() Administrivia: huydai: as everyone can see we're back in-person, so that's cool. Project Reports: cela: HWOPS continues. Hopefully we will release some info soon on our plans for rearranging the SMR. I will also be out for major surgery starting later this week, and will be away for some time to recover. Until further notice, if you need to reach anyone about HWOPS (or anything else), send it to the list so someone besides me can reply. Don't expect me to respond to anything for a while. huydai: project database continues. talked with javier, working with them to make the database. working on getting info added, adding contact emails. probably need some sort of interface for people to modify project info—not sure how easy that is to do. huydai: sipb wifi is now coming back. we [wsmoses, emmabat] are talking with mass officials to get access to a tall building to project wifi. we need help revising project proposal to expand scope beyond mit campus; we've sent out a when2meet to fill out. Other: jmvidal: anything else for project reports? going once, going twice. sold to other! bds: mit has very drastically adjusted its mask policy in an email sent out today , so very interesting development. in a whole lot of places indoors, you're no longer required to wear masks. extended presentation from 8AM: https://share.getcloudapp.com/BluoLYpy mitimmy: testing too. covid policy in general. ashay: am surprised. expected you'd get rid of mask first and then keep testing so you can see the effect of keeping masks off. wondering if intentionally getting rid of masks so they can't be blamed if there's no data. huydai: curious how much mit students will change based on this. ashay: rate is still 0.83 percent. pretty high. agrebe: two orders of magnitude higher than last summer, when masks were required. one order of magnitude higher than beginning of fall. Other Other: huydai: over last week, some hacking group said they stole 190 gb of samsung galaxy source code. samsung has now confirmed it, but they're like, no consumer info was stolen. so. we'll see. petey: idk if this is other other or what. but the other part of the covid update today was some kind of "by the way be prepared for cyber attacks, the fbi has alerted us about hardware systems, to prepare for power outages". so idk where that would go. agrebe: this wasn't in the email, but was in the 8am meeting. petey: haven't watched the video yet, but have seen the slide deck . not sure it's relevant, but would mention because it's kind of out of the blue (video: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/66nn42rjfcmaf3q/AABy0rZeWBIDJGDXmjgi3EKma/Recordings%2C%20Chats%2C%20and%20Summaries?dl=0&preview=20220307+Call_Recording.mp4&subfolder_nav_tracking=1) gshay: was there some indication of how widespread this is? like how much of campus would lose power? petey: slide deck isn't clear. apparently something fbi is going around telling people, so. jeffery: they did say we have backup plans to avoid losing power. huydai: might be related to the ongoing ukraine-russia war. toomas: the central crisis website back home [estonia], some time before the invasion, had a news article pop up "be prepared for cyber attacks", around when ukraine was experience theirs. The meeting was adjourned at 19:43. Minutes taken and submitted by cjq.
