Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2024-04-15 The meeting was called to order at 19:33 by innaavo. In attendance were Student keyholders: alwinfy, innaavo, jmvidal, aabreu, rgabriel, arjunjb Associate keyholders: almonds Members: guoj1112 Guests: Johnson Elugbadebo Administrivia: innaavo: Yay SIPB meeting! aabreu: We should get, like, a shelf for the snacks. They look a bit messy on the almonds: Like a tray table? aabreu: I don't know almonds: Trilith? Is that what we'll call it? innaavo: I'll do some research and come back next week with a quote innaavo: I'd like to allocate for $372.70, for Chipotle & pizza for SIPB CPW. aabreu: How was Midway? innaavo: It was good! alwinfy: Seconded [motion passes 5-0] innaavo: Midway went well! We got like a hundred emails. We've gotta sort through those - I'll ask psvenk about them. Overall it went well! Johnson: I'm a Harvard researcher under Joe Tango, Cristina Wallace, Randy Cohen. I went to Sloan so I'm very familiar with MIT - this room is very MIT :) Johnson: I do research at HBS - I'm self-taught at programming and I fell in love with it. I'm looking for a co-founder for a programming startup - I've done a similar thing with Harvard - but I also came down here to talk to you, offer resources; if you want any sort of resources, I'm happy to be available; and if anyone in your membership wants to talk about bootstrapping a startup, I'd be happy to chat! ?: We suggest emailing sipb-jobs@ [discussion of sipb-jobs@] innaavo: There also aren't many people right now because of the break. Johnson: It's fine, I live 9 minutes away. almonds: HWOps would like to allocate for about $20 for a PCI-e cable to hook up the GPU to the new server. alwinfy: Can we reuse the cable from boss-baby? almonds: Nope, it's gotta be 90- or 180-degree joint to allow the case to fit innaavo: Seconded. Motion to white ballot alwinfy: Seconded [motion passes by white-ballot] innaavo: How did building the server go, by the way? almonds: Went well! It works - we've just gotta put in the hard drives and install all the software - the GPU works but we just gotta fit it in the case. We were thinking of calling it boss-toddler instead of boss-baby. innaavo: Seconded. rgabriel [in chat]: I would like to motion to allocate $126.08 for a MongoDB server (PowerEdge R730) innaavo: Seconded; motion to white-ballot jmvidal: Seconded [motion passes by white-ballot] alwinfy: This is the uninteresting part where we throw a bunch of money around almonds: Why not allocate a little extra? alwinfy: We've been very precise in allocating money innaavo: Adds a bit of whimsy almonds: We got an email from the Musical Theater Guild asking to borrow the Cerb plushie. Can we okay it? innaavo: Yeah I think that's fine [discussion of Cerbie] Project Reports: alwinfy: Sign continues! I updated it for CPW and forgot to un-update it. Please talk to me if you want to know how to program the sign/do anything with it aabreu: DormDigest continues. I tried to get more familiar with the frontend today so when huydai leaves we're prepared. almonds: LLMs continues jmvidal: HWOps continues! Meetings Fri 5:30 innaavo: How's getting server room tap coming along? jmvidal: No word from IS&T yet! I've been bumping them. rgabriel: Matrix continues. The software has been updated to the latest version, so expect squashed bugs. Other: innaavo: Happy end of CPW! alwinfy: How do you feel about it overall? innaavo: Pretty good! I met a lot of people I'm excited to see next year - I feel we got some connections. guoj1112: I attended CPW in the afternoon [on Saturday], and I don't think I saw a lot of people. innaavo: Yeah we were hanging out and chilling. We got a fair few people who showed up just for pizza, but we got a couple who were really pretty interested. alwinfy: I feel a couple of events could have been better organized - in particular Midway and Python Bee had some rocky moments. Two tables for the former and some better preparation for branding/snacking/etc; more on the latter later almonds: I think this was my first CPW with SIPB, and it seemed to go well! almonds: Do we have a pubchair? alwinfy: I think nominally the Vice Chair, but psvenk almonds: I think we should assign pubchair to someone. Any volunteers? alwinfy: I can do some of it - I've done it in past & I've done some work on like flyers. I can also reach out to one of my contacts and see if she's able to do anything rgabriel: The flyers at Midway were nice rgabriel: I think the Python bee had a sizeable attendance. I was not available then, but when I went to the office that day it was packed (the East Campus Python bee had only psvenk and I attending it oop) alwinfy: Python Bee also could have gone a bit better - I think the chief things were making sure we had food, having a bit of a prettier frontend, cleaning up a bit of the timing/making it more exciting, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD EASIER PROBLEMS (it is no fun when both players wipe and we tiebreak with something inane). innaavo: I've been trying to get the SIPB Instagram, as a prefrosh asked about it and I couldn't give one to them. I've messaged the account but no answer. If anyone has any information let me know. almonds: It's not in the AFS locker nor sipb-wiki-internal, as far as I can tell. Maybe we can contact Instagram using a sipb mailing list and ask for it back, half joking. rgabriel [in chat]: Any places to document these lessons (2 tables, simpler python problems)? almonds [in chat]: CPW channel? alwinfy: We could put a file on AFS for like "lessons learned" for future CPWs. alwinfy: One other thing I wanted to pitch was an exhibition match - so we show (1) how hard it is and (2) that it's for fun. Other Other: innaavo: Happy Patriots' Day! I'm tired. alwinfy: The tax deadline is sooner than you think! I'm tired as well. alwinfy: Drop date is sooner than you think! The meeting was adjourned at 20:05. Minutes taken by almonds, innaavo, alwinfy and submitted by alwinfy.
