Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2024-05-20


The meeting was called to order at 19:33 by innaavo.

Administrivia:

        innaavo: I tried to ask Maseeh for access to their lawns, but they rebuffed me. I also asked the CAC but they just told me to ask the heads of house. I also considered McCormick but their grills haven't used int
        
        alwinfy: We have a grill at the top of Simmons… not sure if we have affiliation issues there.
        
        innaavo: Why would we?
        
        innaavo: I'll look into Simmons - it might be nice, especially when it's still warm out (September). Especially a terrace party.
        
        rgabriel: We could also try Senior House grills or one of the courtyards east-side.
        
        alwinfy: We could buy a SIPB grill! We wouldn't have anywhere to store it, and we wouldn't be able to use it past the every-five-years thing, and it'd be all-around impractical, but it's something we could do.
        
        psvenk: We could also talk to the EC REX chairs; they had a grill on one of the fields.
        
        dtemkin: Field A. You'd have to reserve it from DAPER though.
        
        innaavo: Is there a specific day for SIPB 55 that we should run it on?
        
        almonds: I think it was January of '69? It feels like a January. Let me look into that.
        
        innaavo: We'll run it in the end of September, I think.

        scj643: We should get boss-baby a new motherboard - it's failed and has a bunch of new issues; in particular it won't wake from sleep anymore.
        
        almonds: Do you have a specific suggestion?
        
        scj643: Nope, haven't had time to look into it yet. Should be about $300, I think. Motion to allocate for a motherboard and a NVMe drive?

        alwinfy: What are our plans for operation over the summer?
        
        innaavo: I'll be attending Zoom meetings 'till ~June 2nd.
        
        alwinfy: I believe rgabriel will be pointing the in-person meetings while most people are out.
        
        alwinfy: We'll try to keep meetings going on a best-effort basis - though most of the EC will be out of town.
        
        innaavo: We'll see you all in September!
        
        almonds: Found it... SIPB seems to have been founded in January 1969, when "Prof. Licklider decided to allott $100,000 from Project MAC to support undergraduate computing [...]"
        
        innaavo: For SIPB 55, if any cruft want to show up, it'll be about mid-September, please reach out to me. 
        
        alwinfy (jokingly): Who cares about cruft?
        
Project Reports:

        scj643: SIPB door is fixed! It just needed to be restarted, SQL went down and so the Python code followed. Also, I still need to get an EC member's consultation on SIPB Vault.
        
        andiliu: DormSoup/DormDigest continues. I've updated the docs, and almonds be working on getting the LLM work with the DormSoup prompts. aabreu is already working on the frontend.
        
        psvenk: CourseRoad and Hydrant continue; dtemkin, rgabriel, and I had an onboarding meeting.
        
        almonds: The Mattermost does not continue; we'd like to update the server, the version is out of date and we're still using MariaDB rather than MySQL/Postgres, where Postgres is apparently most supported. If anyone would like to see about either continuing with our database + upgrading the version on XVM, or moving to mattermore.mit.edu (which is off XVM), even if you're reading the minutes in future, please let me know if you're interested.
        
        innaavo: It's so sad that jmvidal isn't here! I like to stare at him to prompt him to say HWOps continues.
