Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2024-09-23 The meeting was called to order at 19:33 by innaavo. That does seem excessive. manjola: Could we get blankets? scj643: We do have Tech blankets. innaavo: That's a good idea! We were also talking just before about a movie night, that might be fun. manjola: From where? innaavo: Amazon, probably innaavo: OK! In that case, we'll cancel the order for the chairs and tables. [motion falls by the wayside] innaavo: We could just rob a classroom and put it all back afterwards. manjola: I was sayin' this innaavo: TL;DR is that we won't have tables and chairs at the BBQ. If anyone is going to be shitting on me for not having tables and chairs, let these minutes be a record that it was not my fault. alwinfy: Those jank ass folding tables run you $50 a pop on Amazon psvenk: What are we doing about merch? One concrete suggestion from annliu22 (who designed the merch) was to have a sippy (SIPB) cup. Isn't that great? innaavo: A Stanley! psvenk: Aren't those expensive? [sidetracked discussion about Temu] manjola: What have we done in the past? alwinfy: We've done masks, stickers, t-shirts, hoodies. The hoodies were expensive but of pretty good quality. innaavo: Mugs. jmvidal: We called the mugs "SIPBy cups"... manjola: How much do we have? psvenk: We've allocated for paying the merch designs, but not for any actual printing. That was ~$100. [pulling up the merch designs on-screen] innaavo: We gotta have t-shirts! jmvidal: And sweaters? manjola: If you want to give it away to just everyone, t-shirts are probably best. innaavo: Let's figure out the deets on that, then! psvenk: Can we have merch with the really shitty HWOps logos? innaavo: We should have stickers again! manjola: Do we have stickers? psvenk: We still have some over there [almonds goes to hand out stickers] alwinfy: So in terms of concrete action items, the chair should maybe look into things and figure out quotes for ordering. innaavo: I'm tired of doing things... does anyone want to take over it? psvenk: I can do it, yeah manjola: We should send out a poll about what everyone wants innaavo: Fullstack -- we had the meeting right before this, consensus is that we should just be separate as clubs and if they have projects that fall under what SIPB does then the project can go to SIPB and ask to be maintained or be a part of SIPB. Other than that, idt they want to give up sponsorships/applications. They would have to change a lot of how they operate to become a part of SIPB. alwinfy: Seems neatly resolved to me then [discussion about whether we should rob a classroom] psvenk: Do you want to redact that? innaavo: Eh, nah. innaavo: On SIPB 55 - it's not going to be changed to Sunday because the weather looks fine again. manjola: So when is it going to happen? innaavo: This Saturday at 5pm. Walker lawn. We'll go to Costco Thursday and get an assortment of desserts/drinks. We already got sweet tea and lemonade / water. scj643: Can we get pretzels? innaavo: Sure! psvenk: Can we include veggie burgers (not Impossible burgers)? alwinfy: Can we do this in the shopping list channel? If particular requests, maybe that's a good place for them. rgabriel: I think placing it tonight is kind of important innaavo: I don't think the catering people offer veggie burgers... psvenk: That's fine then. There's other options. Like macking cheese. We can create up to 5 guest accounts at a time for guests who are not MIT but want to participate in SIPB projects. almonds: And the notes in the locker have been updated for that? rgabriel: Well, no. I'll do it soon TM rgabriel: The missing motherboard finally showed up, addressed to someone named Gabriela from SOLE? Just my name but with an "a" at the end. That's why it was missing. I've started ordering packages to SIPB. scj643: Keep it as a spare? psvenk: Incidentally, I also got an email from someone whose name was mine but with an "a" at the end. I think it was about a talk. rgabriel: I was thinking if we don't want it we could give it to reuse or resell it. alwinfy: Nice to keep it as a spare. rgabriel: $22.16 for SIPB cloud domain. We (including asedeno) just now moved a bunch of servers (including limekiller) onto the new racks. Lots of progress! almonds: Children's television workshop (ctw), the UPS, is crying. We've been getting nagios emails from them since at least a week ago. psvenk: This has been happening for several months! I usually have a policy to not delete my emails, but I've made an exception just for this. But yeah I've been getting these for Courseroad since May. almonds: We'll look into it - if anyone has advice, that'd be quite appreciated. [discussion of Sesame Street] rgabriel: join-dormspam.mit.edu exists now! I'm hosting it on the DormDigest server. It'll be a website where people can easily join dormspam. Let me know if it's good or bad! almonds: DormSoup continues. We have some more participation, very exciting, some of those new members were here at the beginning of this meeting. We're working on some new features, still working on the migration from ChatGPT to SIPB LLMs. alwinfy: SIPB couch continues. We still have a couch. innaavo: I don't know if we've said this, but no eating on the couch. psvenk: And no more than one person horizontally on the couch at one time. bbaren: That one really is a policy, actually. manjola: What if you go sideways? psvenk: No eating or drinking on the couch. Or, we could say no ingestion of edible items while on the couch. johnm2: What about nonedible items? Can I eat rocks? almonds: Yes [discussions about SIPB booze] manjola: Question: There was a project interest form a while back, did anything come from that? innaavo: We sent out emails. manjola: I never got one. almonds: I can send out the SIPB LLMs interest email. alwinfy: Seems it hasn't happened yet for some of the projects. Regardless of what's on the calendar, it's worth sending it out on email.
