Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 11 October '82 The meeting was called to order at 7:35pm by Barry Margolin, acting chairman for Wendy Rowe. In attendance were Barmar, ZRM (briefly), CBF, Naha, Steve (briefly), JIS (briefly), JR, CAH, CDT, KAM, J9, DCP, clm, PLJ, TZS (briefly), RK (briefly), Ed (briefly). Just about every item on the agenda was from RK, but he was not at the meeting until quite late, so no one at the meeting knew what the agenda was about. The minutes of the meeting of 4 Oct. were read and accepted as corrected. TREASURER'S REPORT People should claim their phone bills. Spending totals: month-to-date $3581 .96 year-to-date $19410.22 last week: $2131.00 week before last: $1220.00 SPB/SPBA spending was $430.82--this is 12%!! CBF gave us some figures broken down by shift: shift money hours ave./hr. one $608.65 105 $6.00 other $2048.00 413 $5.00 In Sept., this same breakdown was: shift money hours $/hr one $743.00 124 $6.00 other $2045.00 461 $4.43 total $2788.00 585 $4.70 Which means that in September shift one spending was 26%. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT WER left something on the board which is on line and which Barmar read to us. It should be inserted here. OFFICE REPORT Jay left a note reminding us to make sure the people who come in to apply for more money actually need money. A man came to fix the winning chair and took away its legs. CBF moved to get our legs back from Steve. COMPUTER SERVICES RK wrote something about process-paper that he apparently wanted to tell us about but he wasn't here to tell us. TELECOMMUNICATIONS REPORT RK seems to think we should deliver the uds 212 to Fenway. CBF brings up the matter of the spare vadic. The few people here shouted at each other over vadics talking vadic--it was somewhat technical and the secretary didn't understand. There are too few people here to make/change the decision. PSR sent mail to SIPB complaining about the terminal chairmen in the dorms; he will tell us about it later when he is here. TERMINAL REPORT There are five TTR's on the board, which KAM read to us. 1). 3 August 82, terminal at ADP has a broken caps lock. 2). 3 October 82, Burton LA36 or dataset is not working. 3). 4 October 82, East Campus terminal has a bad keyboard. 4). 5 October 82, McCormick Vadic modem isn't dialing properly. 5). 11 October 82, Burton dataset isn't working. PUBLICATIONS REPORT The second draft of a letter to Beane is on the board. We are still out of NUMS; we are waiting for 300 to come back from Beane, in the meantime we are using the 9700. Comment on the Beane letter; it will probably be sent sometime next week. ANNUAL-REPORT REPORT Why do we need an annual-report and a budget proposal when they are the same? MOVING BACK TO OFFICE REPORT Barmar says it is easy to use the spinwriter as a typewriter. Other people say they want a typewriter. Tavarres says they (typewriters) can't be fixed. R/O REPORT IAP REPORT The deadline is tomorrow. Barmar is bringing them the forms for the two classes we will be teaching. WER is doing the textprocessing course; talk to her is you want to be invollved. BIM and JIS have volunteered to teach an intermediate multics course. OTHER J9 brought up an interesting policy point: RA's have to write a research report (which is often not required). Should we fund these reports? NB: they are required for a course which RA's are automatically registered for, except that eventually it becomes an automatic register for thesis. This is something we should think about. MORE TREASURER'S REPORT CBF: last month 26% of our spending was shift I. In the beginning of this month, which has had the warning message on for about half of the time, shift I has been 22%. This will be brought up again next week. APPLICATIONS Mozayeny, Koorosh. $60.00 ->mtg. given, but he should be explicitly warned against shift-I. MG. $100.00 ->mtg (by CBF, who is trying to strangle the acting chairman--or maybe he is trying to knife him. No, he is trying to strangle the secretary). He is an inactive member. given. Udofia, Nkere. $100.00 ->mtg. deferred. Lue, Kok-meng. unspecified, -> mtg. for 16.621 proposal 50 pages, prev had $100, given $60 Fortenberry, Norman, $100->mtg. prev $100 course/resume, est 93 pages. Given. motion by CBF to warn the last to people that they may not get any more. The motions seems to have been accepted w/o ever being seconded or voted on. Steve totaled the autoed applications this week.
