Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 26 July 1982 in 39-200 The meeting was called to order at 19:31 EDT by Wendy E. Rowe In attendance were GMP, c/, J9, WMY, RK, JSL, barmar, JIS, WER, ACW. Late were: DCP, HDT, Jay. The minutes of the meeting of 19 July 1982 were read and accepted as corrected. Treasurer's Report: 19:39- There is no treasurer here and there is no official budget here either. Chairman's Report: { 19:40- WMY and more notes on the CCE meeting. Dean of the School of Engineering Gerald Wilson decided to put the VLSI fabrication facility in Building 39 against the recommendation of Mr. Dixon, MIT Space Manager. The Industrial Liaison Program doesn't know where they will be. New hardware Honeywell DPS-8 and possibly IBM 3081's or 3083's will be delivered directly to the new building. Vague maps of the CHAOS subnets and phone closets were passed out. Harvard: "We don't give out free typewriters and we don't give out free word processing accounts either." 19:47} Office Report: 19:48- The new chair part will cost $35 and take 4 weeks. Motion to appropriate $35 from the checking account to pay for it passes. Computer Services: 19:50- (). Telecommunications Report: 19:50- Eric Ostrom says that there is a mast on the Student Center. The gift PDP-11 has not arrived yet and we will probably receive 5 VT103's with it. --CBF 19:51- The Stud Center line. Dennis Baron has determined that the line is shorted due to a break in the middle of Mass Ave. Therefore, it can't be fixed until new cables are laid, since there are no extra pairs across Mass Ave. 19:52- The broken SpinWronger ribbons were replaced. 19:53- The Property Office would like to talk to us before we sell MIT property (e.g. the AJ's and Novations). WER will talk to them. Publications Report: 19:54- The Co-op policy statement should go to Beane. 19:54- Jay was writing the letter to the wholesaler who wanted to buy Lisp notes, but we don't know if he finished it. 19:54- Manual updates. Barmar appreciated the task when he looked in the Student Center. Annual-Report Report: 19:55- WER is still working on the annual report. 19:56- CBF, Barmar, and Jay have been nominated to process the raw statistics into fancy output. JIS will produce neat pie graphs. R/O Report: 19:57- Most site liaisons have agreed to have their sites on our Computer Tour. ArcMach and AI are still questionable. 20:00- Terminal for the R/O center. We will loan them a video terminal and an acoustic coupler for them to access Clearinghouse. IAP Report: 20:13- Our seminars on text editing were in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of IAP. Other: 20:02- Prof. Whitaker will be having a seminar on Scientific Data Manipulation for Physics and would like us to fund him. If the seminar office funds him, he would like us to administer the accounts for him. Applications: --> meeting Jamal Nasir. $50. for text editing and research paper for 17.501 on Multics. His application for JCF usage is still pending (we don't have account numbers yet). Passes. [HDT entered] Stewart Vile. No amount.
